A Beautiful Thing

I LOVE highlight products, they’re by far the most beautiful that I own and this is no exception. In the pan it’s beautifully reflective and impossible to capture on film. I haven’t tried much from Illamasqua but their Gleams always appealed, cream highlights I’ve tried in the past have tended to be a little more high impact so I was excited to try this one.

The swatch on the left is a full ‘strength’ swipe of the product.. not usually what I would apply to my face but what I would use to indicate colour – in this case a pale champagne. Unfortunately when you blend it out it disappears almost entirely and becomes a very subtle shimmer.. not what I was expecting. For that high impact sheen I can’t use it sparingly and this is a true cream formula – it does crease is doesn’t wear all that well.. not ideal if you’re going to be using a thicker layer. IMG_9568

I think it does give SOME accent in this picture however to really get the full effect you’d have to put me in direct sunlight, even a small amount does look great on a sunny day but otherwise.. it was a little meh, I have to say. I have oily skin so powder is a must but this doesn’t work well on top of powder products, it smears them around and well.. it just isn’t great. I would imagine that if you were going for a dewy look and could perhaps apply this as a second base to the areas you wanted to highlight and avoid powder this could look very beautiful, very natural and glowy but for every day I need my powder. I may revisit this in the summer when I tend to wear less makeup but for now it will live in my drawer of beautiful things I don’t use.

I WOULD be interested in trying some of the powder blushes from Illamasqua so any recommendations would be appreciated!

I am absolutely obsessed with this product! One of my favourite highlighting products ever. I definitely agree you have to see it in the flesh to see how beautifully it picks up the light 🙂 xx

S.O.P.H.I.E powder blusher for illamasqua is my favourite. It’s a coral/pink with flecks of gold. I tend to favor Matte blushes so It does look a tiny bit too shimmery in the pan, but once applied it just adds a subtle warm glow, perfect for spring/summer. It also applies beautifully and has a long wear time on my oily skin.
Also £1 of every purchase goes straight to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, so can’t go wrong there either 🙂

this is so pretty in the pan it’s too bad that the application doesn’t live up to it.

The blush in Katie is amazing and so pigmented and blend able x

I’ve been dying to try the too faced candlelight powder. Its supposed to be subtle enough to use all over as a finishing powder but I doubt it. I think anything with shimmer should be just used as a highlight. I had the boots points for it but I spent them on benefit stuff. I like the benefit stuff but I still want that powder so I’m saving up again haha.

I have always used liquid highlighters..maybe it’s time to venture into powder. Thanks for this review! xo

Always finish off with cream (wet) face products i.e. cream blushers and cream highlighters before using powder to set all cream products. Try gleam again & I’m sure you will get better results. Thrust powder blush is beautiful (looks quite full on in the pan but applies beautifully with a light hand). Love your blog:)

I love highlighter products and have way more than I will ever be able to use up but I still continue to buy more! I have a problem…

I am loving the idea of a highlighter, but of course…I am not sure how to wear it or even which is the best to get with my budget. I’m adamantly against spending more than $7 on anything that I don’t wear constantly. However, this one is very cute and sadly, not available anywhere near me. 🙁
