Are YOU Bikini Ready?

Before my Vegas Vacation a few months back I did a “Bikini Bootcamp” series which was well received and I’ve had requests for similar posts as it’s now officially holiday season. As most of you regular readers will know I had a baby in November and even now, 7 months later a bikini is the last thing I’d choose to be seen in. That being said in the interest of us all being in this together I braved the current British weather so showcase my ‘before’ body.. don’t laugh..

Even as I type this I’m wondering where the trolls will post these pictures of my wobbly, pasty, post baby bod but dya know what.. I don’t care. How many of us naturally look like the airbrushed girls in the magazines? Very few I’d hope and it’s not an attainable goal but if you’re on a health kick or (like me) just want to feel a bit better about yourself in general then join me and share your tips as we go along. The one and only time in my life I’ve successfully ‘dieted’ I used a calorie counter app called My Fitness Pal and I’m considering using that again but in all honesty diets make me miserable and would I rather be happy and get fat? If looking at me thinking ‘you’re not fat’ firstly, thank you, but secondly it’s very much in the eye of the beholder. I gained roughly a stone with each child and whereas the first one was okay the second is annoying. Because I’m only 5’2” (ish) a little extra weight makes the world of difference and it tends to all settle around my middle, it would be easy to ignore it and revisit the diet idea in 10 years when I feel really rubbish but the older you get the harder it is and when it comes to exercise the sooner you start the better.I am speaking to you as the laziest person ever, quite seriously I’m typing with one hand and eating Oreos with the other but that’s why I’m the perfect person to do this.

I am a firm believer that the best teachers are the ones that struggled with their chosen subject. As an example, someone born with the ability to play the piano would have no idea how to teach someone else… they just always knew how. The same applies with naturally athletic/skinny body types. Someone that’s never had to watch their weight and has always looked toned and slim with no effort would be the least qualified person to preach to you about losing a few extra lbs.

I have never been super skinny but I never watched my weight ’cause it was always ‘ok’ so now I have to diet/exercise it’s the hardest thing in the world.. basically if I can do it, you can do it! And I did (a bit)… check out the posts back in March here..

I thought it was appropriate to start a Bikini Ready series with my not so ready bikini body in several ‘trying to be ready for a bikini’ poses. There’s not enough support between women sometimes and regardless of the mocking I get for the photos I think it’s important that we come clean and admit that most of us are in the same boat.. Most of us don’t like the way we look, it’s sad but it’s true. I would look at someone and think they were slim and they will be thinking they’re morbidly obese. It’s the society we live in and you can’t escape it but you can change your idea of the perfect body. Over the next few posts in this series I’m going to be looking at body shapes and what’s achievable.. A pear is never going to be an hourglass no matter how many hours they spend at the gym. I will be tracking my (hopeful) weight loss and talking about exercises you can do in and outside of the home as well as the various lotions and potions on the market right now promising firmer, cellulite free skin. If you have any suggestions please leave a comment, Sometimes it’s not about changing your body so much as how you look at it and if I can find some placebo that makes me believe I’m a supermodel you’ll be the first one’s to know.

One last note..

This bikini was sent to me for ‘review’ which as you can imagine is tough.. it’s a bikini, but I loved the pattern the details are super cute and it’s the best quality fabric I’ve found on an item of swimwear..EVER. Unfortunately it didn’t make me look like the model in the picture but it is on sale here – they also sell really lovely lingerie if you’re in the market and this is so out of my price range but…LOVE it!

      your comment is 100% appreciated in the tone it was intended HOWEVER from my perspective.. I’m 26.. I want to look good not ‘good for having 2 kids’ lol. I think when I’m 40 I’ll be cool with that.

      well in truth in March I intended to do before and after pictures but bottled it too lol… this time I just thought SCREW IT.. but those pictures have been sitting in drafts for a month lol

    We’re our own worst critics! I think I might do a series like this on my blog! You can do it :). You look good in general, and especially for having just had a baby! Think about how amazing a woman’s body is that she can carry, nourish and birth ANOTHER PERSON!?!?! That’s crazy! If your body can do all that it can get fit too, you have the powaaaa lady!

I seem to have one of those bodies where, even at 16, everything goes to my body and I find it really hard to lose weight. This helps so much. Especially with the average body, this targets the mid section not just on the front, but also at the sides. I only use the 5 minute workout, but I try to do it everyday, at least once, but normally twice or even three times. Its honestly worth every penny, and I guarantee you’ll love it!!

      thank you! and I was doing the 30 days shred but that combined with bi weekly zumba classes totally effed up my knee so that sounds more like something I could do. I’m not THAT bothered about being thinner everywhere, just my midsection. x

    Massive well done for showing us your before picture. I think you have a beautiful figure and not “for someone who’s had two kids”, just gorgeous anyway! But I totally understand what you mean about it being a personal thing. I’m currently trying to loose some weight I gained on the implanon. Some people think I look fine but for me I want to shape up a bit! Can’t wait to follow your progress and hopefully it will spur me on a bit. I’ve found some amazing workout videos on YouTube FYI. Lx

      thank you! and it is totally personal… someone half my size will think I’m fat but someone twice my size will think i’m thin.. it’s more how i feel than anyone else at the end of the day and i just want to be a bit slimmer lol. i will look on YT for vids thanks x

    I commend you for putting your before photo up. Not many of us would have the guts to do that. I am in the process of trying to sort out my bikini body so I look forward to following your progress.     Well done you, I wouldnt have the balls to do that but then my figure is not as good as yours. Im not fat but Im not really in proportion either. Im a size 10 and I have the worst cellulite ever, infact I may just take a pic of myself like you have just to see how bad it is from….actually scrap that,diet and exercise is hard work and if im not willing to stick at it forever then its not worth it, so ill work on accepting myself as I am and enjoy my bag of giant buttons instead!

      that’s kind of how I feel.. if you’re not gonna keep it up it’s a waste of time but if you can find a way to alter your diet and get a little exercise in that you could actually continue without much effort that’s a total lifestyle change. When I ‘dieted’ before I learned so much about calorie content and portions.. I’ve always known when I was full but lately I eat past that where as I once stopped. It doesn’t have to be lettuce and water for 6 weeks! x

    I think that you look fantastic and I’d be proud if I had a body like yours! I do think that women are very messed up in the way they look at their bodies, I can look at you objectively and say that you look amazing but I’m unable to look at myself in the same way and see good qualities and like you said its what makes you feel good inside that counts not what anyone else thinks. By the way I’d love to see what tricks you come up with, I’m in a chair and think I’ve piled it on as of late!

      thanks! I’ve had several things I’ve wanted to try for a while but I’m SO lazy it’s not funny. The diet will hopefully be secondary as I really do love my food.. it’s more about portion control and limiting really bad foods xx

    Hey there! I think that the tips I can give is to not focus on what anyone else says. If you got a friend that weighs, I don’t know 55 kilos and you weigh 64, then remember that she’s around 15 centimeters SHORTER than you! You’re not supposed to weigh the same! And another thing about that, stop weighing yourself, especially if your training! Muscles weigh more than fat, as well as they “wobble” more when not tensed, so instead measure your body around the belly or where ever you’d like to improve. And another great thing is doing this! Take a picture IN THE MORNING (since your belly grows during the day because of the food in it that has not been processed) in the end of every week and then after a month (or how ever long) compare them! You might not notice the difference when you look in the mirror each and everyday, but this will surly show a difference πŸ™‚

    Hopefully my rambling helped someone! And I live your posts BTW. I just found you, but from what I’ve read you bring some knowledge to your readers which is always appreciated instead of the usual “this is what I ate today” posts πŸ™‚

    You look great already! The only thing you don’t have compared to the girls in the glossy mags is a tan which is always flattering! With the UK weather at the moment it isn’t going to happen;-) Have you found your ideal fake tan yet?
    I shall be starting a healthy eating regime (i’d rather call it that than a diet as it sounds less daunting and restrictive) on Monday. Any posts and recipe ideas (i loved your food blog) would be much appreciated. You can even vlog/blog the recipes as i for one love watching people cook:-) I know it takes a lot of courage to do a post like this one so i hope nobody writes anything hurtful and untrue. You really do look fab:-) X

      thank you! that’s another post I plan actually… bikini body before and after tan to show what a difference it makes! After all the testing my favourite tan was the L’Oreal Sublime Bronze. I do absolutely intend to share recipes so I’m glad you’re looking forward to them πŸ™‚

    I salute you, I had my baby just before you did and I am no where near ready to wear a bikini. I totally get what you are saying about finding the need to diet hard- I have never done it in my life, I prefer to exercise like mad instead but now I have bubs around its hard to get to the gym, so fast walks around the block it is, which takes an age to get the fat off. You are so gutsy and you are looking great!

      Since the weather started to suck I don’t even get out much anymore. I was walking everyday and to town once a week… now I sit around getting fatter lol.. it’s so hard to find the motivation!

    I personally think it IS an attainable goal. In my opinion, too many women put themselves down and think negatively. Isn’t it about time we all looked in the mirror and LIKED what we saw? Why abuse your body? You’re all worth more than that!

    You have a really beautiful figure! If i did not know that you had, had children i would have never guessed! I say forget dieting and be proud of what you already have! Us women spend to much time comparing and criticizing. Life is short! Hell if i was you, I’d wear a bikini EVERYWHERE. x
