I have totally rediscovered my love for Barry M, I was obsessed a couple of years ago and decided I MUST have every shade available – since then their range has quadrupled – but I branched out into different Brands (look at you, Essie) ,the quality paled in comparison to others I tried and I guess I fell out of love with Barry M. I tried their Gelly range last year and wasn’t impressed, I wasn’t impressed with any in fairness because I felt that if they needed a topcoat to prevent chipping then the finish was pointless. For me if you’re going to create a super glossy nail polish then you need to infuse it with something that lets you skip a top coat, no? Anyway I dismissed them for that reason alone and while everyone else was raving about them I was sticking to my guns, expanding my Essie collection and stocking up on Seche Vite. It was only because of multiple readers pointing me in the direction of one particular colour that duped a China Glaze polish I loved that made me look again and since then I’ve bought FIVE more. This is one of my favourites.
Orange is so on trend (I have my eye on about 5 different handbags in exactly this colour) and very much in season. The formula (as I mentioned in my last post) is thick, takes a while to dry but you need less coats and if you don’t find chipping to be a problem then the finish really is great. Even having to use my Seche Vite layer I can now appreciate that it’s not impossible to achieve an opaque colour in potentially one coat of this (although 2 is more feasible) and for the price I think they’re some of the best you can get – the colour range of the gelly’s has just expanded too. The original formula’s aren’t all that but these are some I’d definitely recommend.
PS. I does state online to apply a topcoat – seriously!! What’s the point in the gel finishes??
