I don’t always write a post about my monthly beauty boxes but I do make short review videos on YouTube which you can see here if you’re interested. This month I thought it was worth an extra edit since it’s an unusual unboxing.. I already subscribe to Birchbox HOWEVER I was contacted by their PR team who offered to send me the February box to review for you guys. I debated for a moment before I realised it could be a great opportunity to compare the box we all pay for vs the ‘blogger box’. I know I am a blogger and for the most part I’m not too cynical but I have to admit I’ve wondered (more so with Glossybox) whether the contents would be different if it were sent for review vs bought. I’m sure I’m not alone.. so lets get in to the boxes..
I can’t tell you for sure which I paid for as they weren’t marked any differently but the box above arrived about a week earlier than the below so I’m going to make an educated guess and say this was the PR box.
Gilchrist & Soames The London Collection Shower / Leighton Denny Nail Colour / Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner / Urban Veda Radiance Exfoliating Polish / Beauty Protector Protect & Oil / Green & Black’s Dark 70% Chocolate
The only difference in the other box was that the nail polish was replaced by the Model Co Party Proof Lipstick which if we’re talking value is basically the same and if we’re talking contents preference.. I’d rather have the lipstick. Annoyingly I’ve received 2 Leighton Denny nail colours from beauty boxes and both have been pale pink, neither have impressed me.
So there we have it.. there really is no difference in what is sent out whether it is a PR Sample or a regular paid box.. I’d love to be able to test this theory with them all but it was a one off that I happened to already be subscribed to the service when the box was offered to me. I still have my suspicions that not all beauty boxes are as scrupulous as Birchbox however I’ll take this little win on behalf of the average consumer (so me then)
*if it wasn’t hammered home during the post – one of these boxes was sent to me as a PR Sample
