Before my recent brighter ombre I dabbled with these temporary dyes from Bleach London. I did a first impressions video but i wanted to follow up with my thoughts after the colours have washed away and let you know whether I would use them again.
Given that my hair wasn’t super light I wasn’t expecting all that much colour to take but I was pleasantly surprised at how it looked after I used them. Rather than the directed method (apply to towel dried hair and rinse after 10mins) I applied the colours to my hair dry and left them for an hour before washing and conditioning as usual. I did this on the assumption that the colours would be more vibrant and last longer and given that that’s the only way I’ve tried them I have to assume it worked. I mixed together Washed Out Orange and Rose in a bid to create a peachy colour (the peach is ALWAYS out of stock) and I was happy with what came out however it stuck around for a lot longer than I expected. The colour you see in the pictures above faded after I’d say 3 washes but there were streaks of pink that seemed like they were there for the duration. Even now after bleaching my ends you can still see pink tones here and there so I personally wouldn’t use these again because I’m nervous that they’ve stained my hair. I’ve read a lot of negative reviews about the cooler toned colours too.. the purples, greens and blues all seem to stain your hair blue and there are some bloggers who have said their hair is ruined because of it. People who have had professional colour corrections only to wash their hair and the blue come back with vengeance.. scary stuff.
I’ve always been someone that experiments with my hair, ‘it’s only hair, it grows back’ etc etc but if I’m honest my hair is important to me and I’ve had pretty horrendous cuts in the past due to my wild experiments that have left me pretty down about my appearance for a while. If you’re vain enough to want to play with hair colour then you’re probably vain enough to be pretty gutted if it goes wrong so in my opinion these are risky. If you’re looking to be a vibrant colour and are planning on staying that way then I’d say go for it, the colours are really nourishing and not at all damaging to your hair however if you’re looking for a temporary fun colour, look elsewhere!
I’ve had good and bad experiences with a lot of crazy colours and pinks, reds and blues can be very stubborn. The one colour that looked lovely (in my opinion) but faded fast with no residual staining was Directions Lavender.. that and the pale pink but that was so subtle that it wouldn’t be much of a commitment if it DID stick around.
I wanted to post this because my first impressions were very positive and I do think these colours work well but the fade time is more than a little off and it’s important that you have as much information as possible before you mess up your hair!
