Having trialled my very first Bobbi Brown anything just a week or so ago I was more than excited to give these new Crushed lip colours a whirl when they arrived but I wasn’t expecting to love them. I’m a matte lipstick lover at heart and although balmy textures and glossy finishes look nice they aren’t necessarily me.. that and they don’t feel very Autumn/Winter do they? BUT as with skincare and foundation I’m learning that as I get older what I like isn’t always what’s flattering anymore and these lipsticks definitely tick that box in a way my super mattes do not.
When I first saw the press release I assumed ‘Crush’ meant a sheer, blotted looking lip, was there another product with this name because I really don’t understand that word association in my mind. While they can be worn as a more subtle wash of colour they really aren’t that sheer, translucent but more intense that I’d expected. Crush actually refers to the crushed pigments in the formula, which explains the bolder payoff from such a balmy product.
Although translucent and glossy doesn’t scream this season the softening Vitamins E and C and beeswax are welcome as the weather turns colder. I also love the idea of ‘lived in’ colour which is how this is described, a ‘just been kissed’, effortless look. If you’re a leather jacket and boots kinda gal I think this new casual lip could be right up your street.
Bobbi Brown promise 8 hours of feather-free, fade proof wear, I don’t know about fade proof but I wore it comfortably all day and it wore evenly with no bleeding that I could see. I’m not sure I’m ready to give up my liquid lips just yet but if ever I’m looking for a more hydrating option, this will be it!
