Cold & Flu Anyone?

Come on, hands up.. who else has been ill all Christmas? Well I have been ill all MONTH and I’m pretty damn sick of it however the one thing that’s actually made a difference is honey and lemon. I’m not someone who generally takes advice.. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a stubborn soul and don’t like it when people think they know what’s best for me. I know this about myself and occasionally I reach the end of my tether and actually try one of the suggested remedies and whaddayaknow.. it works. This time it was honey and lemon.. man that was a long way round to my point, wasn’t it?

I received this package last week when I was in dire need of a cold cure.. perfect timing. A jar of honey, a lemon and a gorgeous mug to put it in as well as a fluffy scarf to keep me warm. The gift was promoting Ultra Chloraseptic spray which I remember vividly from my childhood. I was always ill at Christmas time and often took so much of the stuff I couldn’t taste my turkey but hey.. it helped! An interesting factoid included in the enclosed pamphlet was that ‘doctors recommend’ you treat the pain rather than the ailment so than you feel relief while your body fights the illness naturally. I kind of like that idea, so with that in mind I finally tried the honey and lemon. It’s not a cure but it definitely soothes my throat and eased my tickly cough for a few hours and for those honey haters like myself.. I used a teaspoon and it SMELLED on honey (yuck) but tasted of lemon so don’t let that put you off for 27 years like I did!

What’s your go to cold remedy? I’m still battling mine 🙁

Lots of water, like 3/4 Lts a day! put lemon in that water, fresh if you can! Lots of rest (if you can get some!) I have managed to not get ill all this winter, mostly from healthy shakes everyday and lots of hand gel!

I just constantly drink water, eat chicken soup and warm up some lucozade. Gives you that added energy when you are feeling glum, but the warmth soothes the throat. Get well soon!

I feel your pain about being ill over Christmas. I had an awful cold for a couple of weeks before Christmas and then I had norovirus on Christmas eve onwards and I’m still recovering now! For colds I stand by the cold and flu tablets from Tesco. They’re the same thing as the Lemsip version, just cheaper!

For a cold I’m a fan of hot blackcurrant squash taken with cold & flu tablets. Like Lemsip but tastes much nicer. For stomach problems I’m a hot lemonade girl. Stops nausea and most biliousness.

I am feeling very much the same, my home seems a lot like a chemist and this is not the first time I have caught a cold in the December month. I completely agree with the Honey and Lemon, I was always using this through my pregnancy as not being able to take the usual lemsips and other crazy dosages of medicines to get myself back the the norm! xx
