Dip Dyed

I absolutely LOVE the ombre hair trend but since I had to chop my locks I’ve felt completely left out.. until I discovered colour! When I say discovered colour I had of course dabbled with ‘party shades’ in the past but I’ve never tried the dip dye and the new temporary colours from the Directions range (available at Xtra’s) really appealed. I used pastel pink to achieve this effect and I thought I’d share a little of my trial and error for those interested in having a go themselves. It directs to use on washed, towel dried hair but when I did that I got little to no colour, next time I applied it to washed and totally dried hair and it was a lot brighter but still not fantastic. It was more pink on one side than the other and I don’t believe that was down to application and as soon as I washed my hair it was gone completely. Great for someone that’s wanting a seriously low committment flash of colour for one night but not so great if you consider how long it took me to wash, dry, sit with it on my hair and eventually rinse. I’m a bit hooked now however, I’ve heard about a new temporary dye launching this month and am very excited to potentially be reviewing that for you soon so this will not be the last you hear about dip dying from me!

I use directions all the time it normally takes a week to fade but 2 weeks for it to completely leave my hair. August i was deep tulip (a neon pinky purple not a red purple that it looks in the tub) plum, and pillarbox red. I totally agree apply to dry hair and leave on for an hour and a half. Obviously the more you wash it the quicker it fades.

I have used a few different Directions colours and I can say, from experience, that the pastel colours work best on bleached/very fair hair, the other brighter colours would show up better in your hair, and last longer too. I also coat the hair with colour and then wrap it in tinfoil ( I am also known to squeeze the tinfoil wrapped hair between my hot straighteners but thats a bit more evasive haha) and I have never been disappointed. Your hair looks great though ;o) You should try the violet next!! xxx

I love your new haircut and color. What color is your overall color ? I just had mine colored my natural color of medium brown and I’m already bored without my blonde highlights.
