DIY Project – Dressing Room – The Plan

So.. I was contacted by Halifax who were offering the opportunity for me to give someone an additional gift this Christmas. There wasn’t a specific item that sprung to mind however I did have an idea and this will be the first of 3 posts which will hopefully show that idea come to life. My friend Caz has had her own ‘dressing room’ in her house since they moved in last year but she’s never had the time to put it together. I recently gave her some storage I no longer needed and she expressed an interest it setting up a vanity and organising the room better.. enter me. There is nothing I love more than moving furniture around and the idea of a whole new project got me excited so I’ve spent the best part of today on Pintrest and Ikea looking for ideas. I’m not sure I’ve actually ever been in the room (or at least I can’t recall) so I’m not sure of dimensions and the pictures she sent me (below) don’t really give away a whole lot..picstitch I’m basically guessing at this point but here are the clues I got from them. 1. She needs somewhere to sit and do her hair/makeup – she’s currently on the floor/by a coffee table.. not idea1. 2. She has clothes hanging from her curtain rail – we’ve all been there, haven’t we? 3. There’s what I assume is a sofa (as opposed to a chair) in the room which will need to stay there. 4. There’s a ‘feature wall’ in a bright colour which doesn’t entirely go with said sofa and finally 5. There’s a mirror mounted to the wall which I will have to work around.

Given that I am guessing how the room is actually laid out, this is what I came up with..UntitledShe’s planning on starting a YouTube channel in the New Year having cameo’d in some of my videos and enjoyed the experience. With that in mind I want to put her desk in front of the window to give her a good, natural light source. The sofa is causing me the most headache as without seeing it in the room I am having to guess that it will take up the majority of the wall space so I’m putting it on it’s own and assuming the door will open on to it. Everything but the desk can move though so it will be a matter of changing things around until I’m happy with the fit.

I wasn’t planning to post about the project as I want it to be surprise but I’m 99.9% sure she wont read this and I’m planning to get the bits and pieces I need tomorrow and potentially get everything done as well so I wanted to get an initial planning post up for those of you (like me) who love DIY and storage stuff. Tomorrow I’ll give you an idea of what I’m looking to buy and the inspiration I’ve found online and then HOPEFULLY on Monday I will have the before and after pictures. I’m hoping to get a video too but I might be too caught up in the organising excitement for that, haha.

Do any of you get this excited about furniture?

I love organising things. I can often be found in the kitchen or in the cupboard in my bedroom re-organising because I can’t sleep haha.

This seems like a fun little project… I look forward to seeing the outcome. I enjoy interior design stuff and always wanting a nosey in other people’s room – in a non stalker kind of way!
