Double Wear – Is It All That?

30 August, 2015

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFor years I scoffed at the YouTubers/Bloggers pushing Double Wear, I thought it was a total waste of money. Revoln Colorstay was the best thing you could buy and it was a third of the price.. but Revlon went and changed their formula, didn’t they (hate you a bit, Revlon) and once I realised I couldn’t dupe it at the drugstore I decided I had to try the famed Estee Lauder counterpart. My first bottle was the ‘light’ version after trying the original and thinking it was too heavy I absolutely loved the lighter formula. It was expensive but I didn’t wear it every day so I justified the cost as it was a ‘special occasion’ base. Soon it was my regular foundation, the best finish, the best staying power, the best oil control.. just too good to reach for anything else but when it came to repurchasing they were all out *sad face*

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Being the impatient so and so that I am I decided to go give the original a go. For those wondering I’m Instensity 1.0 in light and Bone in the original. I worried it would be too heavy and settle where I didn’t want it to but it’s far more blendable than I remember. I use just a little and it blends to a similar coverage and finish as the light but if I want a little higher coverage in certain areas I can build it up. Easily doubles up as a concealer if I’m in a rush.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOverall it is a LITTLE heavy for every day (especially in summer) but the hype is justified, it’s really really good. If you’re looking for something that will hold up and keep you as shine free as a foundation can then it’s well worth the splurge in my opinion. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the new Born This Way foundation from Too Faced and whereas previously I was totally switched off to higher end foundations I may now have to give that a go. If you’ve tried it let me know.. in the meantime when a full base is called for I’ll be calling on this!

Currently on sale at Fee Unique for £25, usually £30

This is definitely going to be the next foundation I try! With fall coming up, I want more of a full coverage foundation, and I’ve heard such good things about this one. It makes your skin look flawless! I also really like your lip colour here as well!

The Double Wear concealer is great too and lasted me such a long time. A little goes a long way.

I’m a die hard DW user, both in the light and original versions. I’ve searched for cheaper alternatives and maybe bought a few, but always gravitate back to Estée Lauder. In the end, the fact you only use a small amount is, to me, where the budgeting factor lies. It would be interesting to actually measure how much you use for each application and then compare to how much you need for a cheaper end version. The problem I had was the colour matching…..I used to be Pebble or Ivory Beige in summer and then Fresco in winter. I now have 2 bottles, one in Fresco the other in Ivory a Beige and I now mix from 2 bottles depending on the time of year. Out of interest, Khila, did you apply using a brush or fingers? Xx

I can’t say I find this foundation heavy at all but I guess we all have different aspects of products. I really love this foundation though because it really is one of the best foundations out there if you have oily skin, mine is terrible!

I have to say it’s my favourite foundation. Lately I’ve taken to mixing a small drop of oil (argan or rosehip normally) with it to make it less heavy for daytime and it still keeps its longevity!

I used to use Double Wear all the time and loved it except for one pesky thing, it does not stay in the tip of my nose!! Never!!! It got to a point where I started to hate it because I resembled Rudolph on the reg. Double Wear Light gives me a much nicer a finish and def lasts longer on me..

Lately though I’ve been using the newer formula of Rimmel Lasting Finish (I hated the old version) and the Nude version and they are so much better than any high end foundations I’ve tried for staying power!! I wore it to a wedding recently and it was perfect still at 3am which is completely unheard of for my foundation repelling face..

    Anyways, babbling over!!
I do think Double Wear is good but also think that there are cheaper, better alternatives 🙂

I just can’t justify that price tag. I’ll stick with my maxfactor 3 in 1. I’ve gone through 2 bottles of it and I’m trying to use up all my other foundations before I buy another.

I tried a tester of Born this Way in Ivory (it was the lightest shade they had in Debenhams but I think there’s a porcelain version out in the states), and it was just far too yellow! I find drugstore foundations like Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation too yellow but this was something else! It did not match me at all even though i’ve gotten away with Ivory shades in the past. I’d love to try a lighter shade but until then i’ll stick with Double Wear in cool bone!

I love double wear! It’s my special occasion foundation as I also find it too heavy for day to day wear. I’ve tried a sample of too faced born this way foundation and it’s no good for oily skin types. It’s far too greasy and never fully sets even with the help of powder. Also the shade vanilla is far too yellow! Try a sample if you decide to try it.

I’ve been using double wear since the nineties.I still buy it when I’m running low.It has changed a little.Ive been mixing an old bottle that was too dark with a lancome foundation this summer and its perfect. My new lighter shade in fresco waiting for me to open in winter.I find I can’t wear oily foundations as they just melt on me.I do still wear my old stock Revlon ( four bottles) when I’m popping out.

there must be something wrong with my skin, ive got both DW light and original and no matter what I do it settles into my fine lines (i’m 30) and upper lip and goes patchy on my nose!!! I want to LOVE Double wear but it deffo doesn’t love me! boooooooo!

not at all.. not one size fits all! I’m not dry ordinarily but I find that I can get dehydrated easily and that’s when my base settles like that. Plenty of water and nightly moisturiser and it perks up in a few days

I had a love/hate relationship with this foundation until I found the perfect application for my skin, which is with the beauty blender! Using the beauty blender the finish is much lighter! Now it’s all about LOVE! I use it on special occasions when I have to stay away from home many hours, for “normal” days I prefer lighter bases, like a BB,CC cream or tinted moisturizer.
