Estee Lauder Double Wear Light

Estee Lauder Double Wear

Honestly, I just don’t know about this foundation. I’ve had it for around a month now and I’ve tried it with various primers, powders, brushes, sponges, in different environments etc.. It behaves differently each time, sometimes I’m really impressed and sometimes it just doesn’t last anywhere near as well as I think it should given the hype and what it claims to do.

Here I’ve applied one layer all over with a little extra where I felt it was needed with a damp beauty blender. These pictures were taken the first time I tried the foundation but as I said I’ve since tried it in multiple different ways. When first applied I love the finish, it’s just the right amount of coverage, it’s not as heavy as the original but it’s still medium in my opinion. It’s relatively easy to blend, I’ve tried it a section at a time (as people tend to suggest) and applying a full face all at once (that sounds a little super human, you know what I mean) and I don’t find it to dry to quickly to HAVE to do it a section at a time. My skin is pretty oily at this time of year so the main thing I was looking for from this was oil control, I’d seen many positive reviews that mentioned this benefit.. unfortunately I didn’t find that it really did much to control shine. It was better than some, worse than others.. nothing that stood out but I can’t complain too much as the real claim Double Wear products make is that they stay put.

I believe I wore this for around 7 hours for the test (I changed clothes during the day in case you spotted that) and my initial thoughts weren’t positive. I think you’ll agree the coverage didn’t last well given that that’s the products main selling point BUT (as you will see in my review video below) I’ve since found that there is an optimum way to apply it to get the most from it. It was entirely by accident that I discovered that you have to give it a few minutes to set before applying anything else on top of it, it becomes tacky and almost glue like which in turn holds down not only the foundation but everything you layer on top too.

I am happy with this and I will continue to wear it on those days when I need a little more staying power but for the money I think I just expected more. I’ve always been happy with my drugstore bases and spending £20 extra I guess I thought it would be perfect but you have to apply it in just the right way, there is still wear, there is still shine etc. Those of you used to dropping big money on foundation may think I’m being picky but I expect it to be proportionately better for the difference in cash and having used it for a while now I’m not 100% sure it is. I just bought a brand new bottle of my Revlon Colorstay to compare with this so expect that review very soon but in the meantime if you’d like to see my first impressions/day test video where I came away feeling a little more impressed it’s here and below..

Ooh it seems like this one has some pros and some cons I’m just not sure on the Estée Lauder bases I recently bought the BB glow one and I’m just not sure …I think for the price you expect more than what you actually get I guess xx

I’m a regular wearer of the original double wear, so not sure if I fancy switching to this when double wear suits my skin & I’ve learnt to work with it in terms of it not looking cakey etc. I’ve recently bought the BB version to use at weekends, but like Rinica, I’m just not sure on that either and feel I’ve wasted my money! I’ll definitely be sticking to the original double wear in the future!

Interesting… I like a full coverage foundation and love the original double wear, but I have never tried the light version. Also I totally know what you mean – if you are spending four or five times as much you want the product to be four or five times better, and this isn’t always the case! x

The orginal version does not budge on me – might be worth picking up a sample? I have literally had naps and it stays perfect haha unfortunately it does not hold up against my insistent chin touching! I always have a perfect face apart from the chin by the end of the day haha

Compared to the original Double Wear foundation I really didn’t like this product. It’s not longlasting enough to hold up the Double Wear range’s claims & it lets through far too many imperfections. The shades available aren’t as good either. There are far better lightweight bases out there with longer staying power. I prefer the NARS Tinted Moisturiser for the Summer xx

For me, it’s all about what moisturiser I use. Using a mattifying moisturiser and powdering once it’s set, tends to mean it lasts all day. I know what you mean about it not being ‘perfect’ though and it kills me to pay the price.

I loved the original double wear but it took a lot of testing for me to find the right shade. I’m surprised this isn’t as consistent as the original. How disappointing.

Oh that’s a shame that it doesn’t last long – I really need long lasting one especially for summer days!

I bought the original Double Wear when I went away earlier this month and I reviewed it on my blog. I really like it and I’m glad that I splashed out but I’m not sure if I’d be able to part with nearly £30 to replace it when it runs out!

I’ve had this foundation for some time now and it’s good, but no as good as I thought it would be given all the hype about it. It does cover well without it feeling like you’ve got tons of product on your face, but it honestly does what any other drugstore foundation could do for me…

Oohh I have this but in a darker shade. It looked great in store but when I tried it at home it makes my skin look very grey! Your right that it does nothing for oily skin but I’ll give your tip a try about letting it set for a few minutes.
