*Face Mask Friday* – La Roche-Posay Hydraphase

I missed Face Mask Friday last week because in truth I just had no time to apply this when I could take photos.. granted these are clearly not in the best lighting conditions but I couldn’t miss it two weeks running so I had to make do. I’ve had this mask for a few weeks.. going on months perhaps and it’s been on my list for a while.. in fact I may have already mentioned this in a favourites video, damn!  I gave away the ending! This falls in to the small but mighty category for me. It’s a tiny tube compared to the monster masks it resides with in the designated basket but it packs a punch. The sole purpose is to hydrate the skin and boy does it?! You apply a generous (thin in my case as it’s not the cheapest and I’m using it sparingly) leave for 10 minutes and wipe off the excess with a cotton pad. This leaves a residue and allows the product to sink in to your skin and do it’s thing rather than being washed off like a regular mask. Me being me I didn’t read the instructions at first and did my usual trick of leaving it for hours then using my clarisonic to buff it away.. now this is not the directed application method but it left my skin so soft I would still recommend you try it. I’ve used it the way you should also and find it very effective for my recent dry, flakey skin issues so in my mind it’s multi purpose. With that in mind I suppose you could say it soothes but only the way any moisturiser does really.

Out of the tube it’s a pale blue tacky lotion that glistens on your skin rather than leaves it looking ghostly or masked in any way. You could wear it overnight for a super intense moisture hit (which I’ve also tried and found very effective) or just keep it in stocks for your dry skin days but either way coming up to winter (hasn’t it been bitter this week?) it’s going to be a skin care staple for me!

RRP is £15.00 for 50ml but I found it on offer here for just £10 until 15th October. They actually have a third off all La Roche-Posay so I’m very tempted to pick up something else to try! Any recommendations?

I don’t really suffer from dry skin at all, I’m definitely combination/oily but that could all change in winter, this sounds like something great if I suddenly get dry patches during the winter. Though I can’t help but feel it seems too expensive for what it is?

it lasts pretty well and you don’t need much of it. I kind of agreed when I was using it as a wash off mask but now I use it as intended and leave the residue over night I feel like it’s a bit more ‘something’ lol

Are face masks something a teen girl would be interesting in doing with her step-mother? We have some SERIOUS bonding to do – I’m convinced my husbands daughter from a previous relationship hates me! I just don’t know what to do, one minute she will be complimenting how slight I am – asking how she can lose a few pounds (without being rude she is a little chubby but this is just because she uses snacks as sort of comfort I think) and the next she will be telling me I have tiny boobs and she is surprised her dad married me?! I am at the end of my tether, I know you don’t have any step kids but Lee has Ella right – but maybe it’s different with a child rather than teen?

I think it’s TOTALLY different as a teen. I can’t imagine how I’d have dealt with my parents divorcing/remarrying as a teen (they’re still together). A girl especially must be so tough for you to deal with as lets face it.. we can be bitchy! I wish I could offer some advice I really do but in your shoes I think I’d give up and stop trying.. purely because kids can be so manipulative and you could be taking her out and shopping etc and she’ll let you then turn around and be cruel. I’m not telling you not to try I’m just saying maybe don’t try so hard if that’s how she’s behaving. Let her wonder if you like her for a change! (too harsh) Hopefully when she’d older you’ll get to bond

Thanks so much for that, no one has put it to me quite like that, all I’ve heard is “you’re the grown up, you need to be understanding and reasonable…” quite frankly, I’m sick of being pushed away. At least she seems to be fond of me and my husbands son, who is still a toddler (SO much easier, hah). Would you consider a blog post with tips for young/new mothers, sort of how to make time for yourself etc. I hope this lark gets easier:@

Is it better to apply a homemade facial mask before you shower or after?

depends on the mask but most will benefit from the steam IN the shower so wear it before and during and wash off when you’re done x
