Face Of The Week #1

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs promised here’s the first in a mini series I’m rather originally calling ‘Face Of The Week’ – I know, I know, my creative genius TRULY knows no bounds. For those who weren’t expecting this post I’ll catch you up. I’m attempting a No-Buy-Athalon (fancy term I made up for a spending ban) this month so I’ll be shopping my stash and hopefully rediscovering some old favourites rather than buying new ones. I’ve already found a little loop hole as I received some things from ASOS today – see the haul video here – which I’m sending back so I will be swapping them for something else of a similar value (that counts right?) but I will be good for the reminder, I promise! So today I am sharing what’s been gracing my face this week..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOne product I’ve fallen back in love with is MUA Undress Your Skin foundation, something I used to wear all the time and totally forgot about. It’s light but a nice coverage and fairly long lasting for a budget base, a great colour match for me too. A concealer I’m on the fence about is Maybelline Fit Me, it’s a little heavy for my under eyes, it settles in fine lines and isn’t as blendable as I’d like but I’m persevering with it to see if there’s a way to make it work for me. I’m using up the remainder of my Bourjois Healthy Balance setting powder as the replacement I bought (Maybelline Superstay) was WAY too heavy for every day wear. I may just repurchase the Bourjois at this point, so finely milled that the finish is as natural as you could hope for from a powder product. My current favourite brow pencil is Maybelline Define-a-brow, something you can’t easily find in the UK and I can’t for the life of me figure out why. It’s the perfect texture, not waxy at all and one of the best ash blonde shades I’ve found, I will be stocking up when we’re in Vegas for sure! Towards the end of last year I barely used eyeshadow, I’m certain I went a solid 2 months without wearing anything on my lids at all so I thought I should bust out a palette to start the New Year and I am remembering how much I loved Nude’Tude from The Balm. I’ve been wearing Stand-offish all over the lid, Sexy in the crease and Sophisticated smudged on my lower lash line daily, it’s quick but really perks me up when I’m looking tired. I may have to pull out the rest of my light shimmery shadows for next week.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI’ve been using the same mascara for months now, I alternate between the original and the Extra Black but Bourjois Volume 1 Second is a dead ringer for Benefit’s They’re Real but without being a total pain in the ass to remove. I have such rubbish lashes, if it works for me it will work for anyone! I pulled out this blush palette from Makeup Revolution in the hope that I’d try a few different shades but I used only one. Third along on the top line, a mauvey pink with a subtle sheen.. the other blush colours are nice but slightly too much on the sheeny side for every day wear. Lastly, lipstick.. this has been a daily staple for around a month now. I’ve bought a fair few MAC lipsticks in my time but it’s rare for them to make it into regular rotation, they’re more collectors items than actual makeup to me (I know that sounds mad) but Faux is the most perfect cool toned nude. It seems to go with everything and I think it’s just right for my skin tone too.. I have a major thing for taupey nudes right now.. that may have to be a post in itself.

So there you have it.. who knew I’d have so much to say about one face of makeup? Rest assured I’ll be back with a whole new one next week. I’m aiming to totally change up the products and push myself to try an entirely new combination each week so it could be interesting but if there’s a particular look/trend/budget you’d like to see let me know and I’ll see what I can do!

The palette from The Balm looks amazing, it’s been on my wish list for a while now even though I reaally don’t need any more!

If it had a couple more matte shades I’d happily trade it in for my naked palette!

Hiya. Is the Bourjois powder worth buying? I have really oily skin nowadays! A lot of powders have talc high on ingredients which I’m told is bad for oily skin, as skin over compensates. Anybody have any other suggestions?

my skin is oily and I think it’s pretty good.. not much REALLY controls oil powder wise however if you’re looking for a fix I think De-Slick spray from Urban Decay worn as a primer underneath your foundation is excellent!

The blush palette is so stunning! I’ve been always wanting to try the NuTude by the Balm as my skin is oily and sensitive!

The maybelline concealors dont seem to be quite light enough for me. Either too yellow or too orange. I’m soooo pale 🙂 i like collection lasting perfection shade 1 at moment, or nyx porcelain. I used to use mac but not liking as much anymore.

I’ve had the same problem with the Fit Me concealer, it just creased soooooo bad under my eyes. It was ok around the rest of my face so got used up for when I was just popping to the shop but I definitely don’t see they major hype around it so won’t be buying again. The Bourjois mascara looks AMAZING when I first apply it but it smudges ridiculously bad on me. It makes me sad. Wow, I’m such a downer in this comment 😛
The Makeup Revolution blush palette needs to be in my life. Also the MUA foundation. WHY DON’T THEY SELL THEM HERE :/
The Catrice eyebrow pencils are amazing if you can get your hands on them. I’d say the one I use (i think its called all about ashton??) looks like it would be about your colour. It’s not waxy at all and cheap as chips 🙂
That lipstick is beautiful.. You’re making me go super spendy 😛

OMG that blush palette is beautiful *love heart emoji*! I need to add that to my wish list, the colours sort of remind me of the MAC mineralize skin finish powders! I also really want the real techniques blush brush! loved your photography 🙂

Great post, I should really shop my own stash instead of buying so much! Also, I’d love to see a post on your favourite taupey-nude lipsticks… x

I’m attempting the same sort of No-Buyathlon thing myself this year as I’m saving up to buy a house (and really don’t need any more make up!). I’ve set myself the challenge of using a different shadow palette/cream every day to ensure I rotate through all of them rather than reaching for the same ones day after day. So far I’ve rediscovered my love of my MAC eyeshadows which had been languishing in the bottom drawer for ages! I also have a tendency to forget what colours I already own so this is a good way of reminding myself that I already have several taupe eyeshadows and probably don’t need to buy another just because it’s new and exciting 🙂 Good luck with your challenge – I’m looking forward to seeing all the looks you put together!

I’ve never filled in my brows but I did with my cousin’s pencil and it matched perfectly and it was so frustrating because all the writing was rubbed off and it was quite short :/ so no change of figuring out what pencil it was 🙁

Loveing both the Bourjois powder and mascara at the moment 🙂 Personally I found Fit Me a bit watery and not a great colour match xx
