Face Of The Week #1

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs promised here's the first in a mini series I'm rather originally calling 'Face Of The Week' - I know, I know, my creative genius TRULY knows no bounds. For those who weren't expecting this post I'll catch you up. I'm attempting a No-Buy-Athalon (fancy term I made up for a spending ban) this month so I'll be shopping my stash and hopefully rediscovering some old favourites rather than buying new ones. I've already found a little loop hole as I received some things from ASOS today - see the haul video here - which I'm sending back so I will be swapping them for something else of a similar value (that counts right?) but I will be good for the reminder, I promise! So today I am sharing what's been gracing my face this week..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOne product I've fallen back in love with is MUA Undress Your Skin foundation, something I used to wear all the time and totally forgot about. It's light but a nice coverage and fairly long lasting for a budget base, a great colour match for me too. A concealer I'm on the fence about is Maybelline Fit Me, it's a little heavy for my under eyes, it settles in fine lines and isn't as blendable as I'd like but I'm persevering with it to see if there's a way to make it work for me. I'm using up the remainder of my Bourjois Healthy Balance setting powder as the replacement I bought (Maybelline Superstay) was WAY too heavy for every day wear. I may just repurchase the Bourjois at this point, so finely milled that the finish is as natural as you could hope for from a powder product. My current favourite brow pencil is Maybelline Define-a-brow, something you can't easily find in the UK and I can't for the life of me figure out why. It's the perfect texture, not waxy at all and one of the best ash blonde shades I've found, I will be stocking up when we're in Vegas for sure! Towards the end of last year I barely used eyeshadow, I'm certain I went a solid 2 months without wearing anything on my lids at all so I thought I should bust out a palette to start the New Year and I am remembering how much I loved Nude'Tude from The Balm. I've been wearing Stand-offish all over the lid, Sexy in the crease and Sophisticated smudged on my lower lash line daily, it's quick but really perks me up when I'm looking tired. I may have to pull out the rest of my light shimmery shadows for next week.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI've been using the same mascara for months now, I alternate between the original and the Extra Black but Bourjois Volume 1 Second is a dead ringer for Benefit's They're Real but without being a total pain in the ass to remove. I have such rubbish lashes, if it works for me it will work for anyone! I pulled out this blush palette from Makeup Revolution in the hope that I'd try a few different shades but I used only one. Third along on the top line, a mauvey pink with a subtle sheen.. the other blush colours are nice but slightly too much on the sheeny side for every day wear. Lastly, lipstick.. this has been a daily staple for around a month now. I've bought a fair few MAC lipsticks in my time but it's rare for them to make it into regular rotation, they're more collectors items than actual makeup to me (I know that sounds mad) but Faux is the most perfect cool toned nude. It seems to go with everything and I think it's just right for my skin tone too.. I have a major thing for taupey nudes right now.. that may have to be a post in itself.

So there you have it.. who knew I'd have so much to say about one face of makeup? Rest assured I'll be back with a whole new one next week. I'm aiming to totally change up the products and push myself to try an entirely new combination each week so it could be interesting but if there's a particular look/trend/budget you'd like to see let me know and I'll see what I can do!
