Face Of The Week #2

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis weeks look was inspired by my temporary change in hair colour. When I tint my hair I find it tough to wear colours that don't obviously compliment it.. if I were 'cooler' I'm sure I could rock the contrast but I'm not so I kept things soft with a lavender hue. The eyeshadows I chose were Stars n Rockets, Dazzlelight and Blackberry from MAC, my MAC palettes are seriously neglected. They're not cheap but there's such a huge selection of shades and finishes that they're always the ones I reach for when I'm looking for a particular colour. I don't usually use a pencil liner, I'm more of a liquid gal but in the interest of changing things up for this series I thought I'd try this Starliner from Arancil, which I believe I got in a 'My Little Box'. Super creamy and I never believe these things are 'waterproof' but it was very long lasting and difficult to remove so that's as waterproof as I'd expect. It's tricky to get a neat line but I'm working on it and it's a little softer than a liquid liner.  I used my SECOND favourite mascara, Doll'd Up from Seventeen. Still excellent and very lengthening but not much in the way of volume.. a little nicer for every day or a more natural look than the Bourjois I love. Brows are going to be tricky to change week by week but I just purchased a new pencil that was super cheap on eBay to test out next week so I might manage it! This week I've been using Soap & Glory Archery pencil, this is different to the dual ended one with the felt tip.. I liked that but it was crumbly and a little too waxy. Everyone told me to try this version and I expected it to be the same thing but just the pencil side with a spooly on the end but it seems to be a totally different thing. The texture is okay but it doesn't give much colour and in turn not much definition. I'm glad I gave it a good test run as I was on the fence about it before but it's not for me. I'll use it but I wont buy again.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFor my face I again used something I bought on a reader recommendation. I've always avoided Rimmel foundations as they were always too dark for me.. my face is actually naturally darker than my neck (probably from sun damage in my youth) so although I could get a 'match' I needed a paler one for it to blend. Recently it would seem they've launched a paler shade so I finally picked up their famous Lasting Finish Foundation.. or so I thought. Turns out this is a lighter (in weight, not colour) version of the original (the new one is called Nude) so I can't tell you if I'd recommend the other but this one is awesome. I'll do a full review for you soon but I'm really enjoying it so far. The concealer I reached for was ALL WRONG.. I don't know how this managed to be in my collection as it's far too dark and I ended up having to layer more foundation over the top the mask the colour. People are always telling me I'd love the Wake Me Up range so I may repurchase now they offer lighter shades but I didn't love it in the wrong one I wanted a little pop of colour on my cheeks but really struggled to decide which would go with the hair.. I  settled on Urban Decay Afterglow blush in Quickie.. this is an oldie but a goodie and unfortunately you can't get it anymore but I'll be experimenting with more candy pinks next week and will hopefully bring you some alternatives. I wore it high on my cheekbones, 80s style and honestly I think that's the way forward for my. I'm rubbish at contouring and often leaves myself looking flushed with blush on the apples of my cheeks so this might be just the ticket.. watch this space! Lastly I again deliberated over lipstick but decided on Mystic Mauve by Maybelline (Magic mauve on every site I can find but I swear mine is mystic) it's one of those colours I've reached for time and time again over the years.. much like Faux from last weeks post it's a flattering nude-ish colour I can wear with most eye looks. Useful to have in the collection!

So that's this weeks face, I made some alterations day to day.. mainly the concealer and occasionally I smudged a blue liner under my eyes but the bulk remained the same. I've barely used Stars n Rockets since I bought it and thought it would be really tough to wear, just goes to show you should experiment!!
