Flu Season Essentials

IMG_9799

It was only  moment ago that I was waxing lyrical about my favourite bath/body products for Winter so this may seem a little moot but today we’re talking more specifically about the items I’ve been reaching for over the past few days. I’ve been laid up in bed with what I consider to be flu but most would consider to be the sniffles. I’m achey, My eyes don’t want to open more than half way, I’m high on night nurse, sudafed and anything else I can get my hands on and I’m pretty sure that there’s more Lucozade in my system right now than blood so if I get a little hazy in the middle of this post that’s why! Anyway.. here have been the staple products seeing me through..

1. Tea

This could be coffee or really any hot drink but when I’m feeling under the weather a piping hot cup of weak (like, really weak) black tea is just the ticket. My husband was my more than willing assistant in this department when I holed up in bed yesterday.

2. Eye Cream

I’ve been trialling a new eye cream this week from Ren which really couldn’t have come at a better time. Ren Vita Mineral Active 7 Radiant Eye Gel* claims to treat, revive and brighten the delicate eye area and unlike anti-aging formula’s which promise preventative results over a long period of time you can feel this working almost instantly. Really helped to wake me up when I was feeling less than perky.

3. Face Mask

This isn’t strictly an ‘essential’ but a nice hydrating mask is always a nice pampering pick me up when you’re not feeling great. The one I used was the Creamy Coconut from Montagne Jeunesse, it’s been a favourite recently as it really helps my dehydrated skin but also leaves it feeling soft and smooth. Had I not had this available I would have reached for an my old faithful First Class Mask* from Organic Surge which gives a similar result but is much thinner in constistency and less messy to apply/remove – review here

4. Bath Oil

I mentioned Aromatherapy Associates Relax Deep in a recent favourites post and I may as well have renamed it ‘Ode To A Bath Oil’ as it took up half of the video but it’s safe to say they have a new fan. I recently received a Christmas set with multiple trial size bottles such as the one above and was thrilled to discover they have a scent named Support Breathe and boy does it. AA is such a mega brand among bloggers that I don’t want to go on and on but really a couple of drops as I was running my bath, I popped downstairs to refill my mug and when I returned the entire upstairs was filled with the aroma… so impressive but pretty pricey so y’know.. Radox would do if you’re in a pinch 😉

5. Lip Balm

I only posted a bath time/post bath treats recently where I talked about this so as above I wont chew your ear off on a topic you’ve heard so much about already but when it comes to cold and flu this is the best balm you could have. Nuxe Reve De Miel – It’s matte so you can coat your nose and lips without looking like you’re covered in balm and it’s also protective so between constant nose blowing and potential weather (although there is now way I’m leaving the house right now) it’s an absolute must have!

I had a small period of time today post aroma bath when I was filled with energy and organised everything for my gift guide videos so all being well they will go up this week.. I’m considering filming an under £10 and under £20 for my budget beauty channel and a ‘luxury’ (over £20) for my new ‘Diary Of A Shopaholic‘ channel – thoughts? I’ve also had some requests for non beauty gift guides so tech/books/home stuff.. any suggestions welcome but now my energy has entirely worn away I am going back to bed.

I end up with endless mugs of hot lemon + honey water when I’m feeling under the weather, it’s such a smoothing go to drink for poorly throats!

That eye cream sounds promising! I am testing an facial oil at the moment which promises the same thing. Instead, I place it on the bags under my eyes hoping it begins to get rid!
