When I spotted this is Superdrug I HAD to try it, I am a big fan of the previous 2 versions (original and oil free) so something designed to improve your skin and potentially combat shine (major issue for me) had to be tested. First thoughts, it felt like a mixture of the earlier 2 to apply, it’s creamy and thick but is more of a matte than tinted moisturiser finish so it’s closer to the oil free. It has a faint ‘Pure Active’ scent which makes sense as it’s been placed in that skincare range family and I happen to be fond of it, I used to be a big fan of that skincare as a teen. I don’t currently have any active breakouts so I had no way to test the effectiveness of the product on them but it’s anti-shine claim left a lot to be desired. I needed to powder sooner than I would if using a regular foundation so if you’re looking at the product for that reason I’d steer clear.
What I do like about this new release is the coverage, it gives a nice even yet natural finish which I was fond of in the oil free but I don’t think this Pure Active version contains quite so much alcohol. The oil free reeked of it as soon as you took off the cap and it broke me out after only one use (and my skin is not generally reactive) but this felt fresher and I had no adverse affects after using it for 3 consecutive days. If you’re looking to replace your BB/Tinted moisturiser and you’re on the oilier/spot prone side you may like this but my main bug bear is that the light colour is far too dark. The Original was much more sheer so I could just about get away with it and the oil free colour was much better but this is back to the standard beige which is so disappointing.
