Glossybox – November

That’s right.. it’s been more than a year since you saw a Glossybox review on this blog.. more like a year and a half actually but I thought it was time I gave them another shot and I kind of wanted the Christmas box. One thing that bugged me when I was online to sign up was that they seem to have a more expensive Christmas box you can buy which leads me to believe that maybe the regular box wont be as good.. mmm, we’ll see.

What’s In The Box?

Vichy Idealia Life Serum 30ml for £29.50

I actually had a full size of this serum and really enjoyed using it so although these samples are presented to look more impressive than they really are when you take away all the fancy packaging I’m pleased to have some minis for my upcoming holiday.

Emite Makeup Eyeshadow in Dams – £16.80

It’s not often I reach for a solo eyeshadow in black but if I did this would be it.. very impressive pigmentation for a matte black, I’s definitely be interested in trying more from this brand if this one is anything to go by. The card says it’s ‘micronised’ and is completely free from oil, nickel, parabens and perfume (makes you wonder what is in the cosmetics you use, doesn’t it?) and ideal for sensitive eyes or lens wearers.

Yves Rocher Hand Cream Cacao & Orange – 75ml for £1.95

A good value item that had it not been so oddly scented I may have repurchased. Why you would want your hands to smell like chocolate orange I will never know but my husband assured me I am in the minority with this opinion so I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.. do you want your hands to smell like chocolate? I can get on board with cocoa butter on my body but even that can be sickly.. add in orange and your fingers will smell like you dipped them in a dessert.. yuck. Nice cream though 😉

Elegant Touch Rapid Dry For Nails – £3

Another afforable product, I’m yet to try this but if it works even a little I WILL repurchase. I’ve heard a lot about quick drying sprays recently and as a huge nail polish lover this could become a staple for me. I’ve used hairspray and the cold water trick but if there’s a fool proof spray that can dry my nails I am sold. Have any of you used this?

Agese Oils Face Glow – 15ml for £29

15ml for £29? WHAT?? I don’t care how well it works that’s crazy talk!! This was an unecessary addition to the box and dare I say I would have rather had a fragrance sample (lol)

Gotta say that after 18 months of telling you guys I hated Glossybox this little revisit to the service hasn’t made me want to eat my words. It’s a perfect example of why I cancelled my subscription in the first place.. A black eyeshadow (really? Of all the colours you could choose to represent your brand you choose black?) Tiny skincare samples that wouldn’t give enough uses to determine the effectiveness of the product (had I not already tried the full size) a ridiculously expensive vial of face oil and a cream that will make my hands smell like chocolate orange. Okay I know.. the last one might appeal to some but ugh.. not me. The only real stand out here is the nail dry spray which in fairness I was putting off actually purchasing so I’m pleased to have had it forced upon me but everything else was a bit.. meh. I was far more impressed with this months Miss Glossybox which you can read about here so I plan to keep that subscription an cancel this one after the December box.

Available online here

How do you feel about Glossybox versus other service available? Which (if any) do you subscribe to? I think I’m going to try Birchbox next.

I used to buy that nail drying spray from bodycare years back. If the formula is still the same you will have really greasy hands. It used to just leave a greasy film over my nails to protect the polish from knocks, but it didn’t do that much to dry it. I’m interested to see if it’s any better now : )
Chocolate orange sounds fab! I had shower gel in that scent that was gorgeous. I think you are definitely the minority there XD xx

I got the Pistachio cocoa hand cream and it is surprisingly addictive scent wise (not too chocolaty). My eye shadow colour was a frosty off white so it could have been worse!!!

I have to say, I totally agree with you about Glossybox. I really, really wanted to like it. The idea is so cool! But the products I was receiving were just subpar.

I don’t know if it’s just the UK versions of these beauty box services suffering because we’re a smaller, more expensive market, or if it’s a general trend everywhere but I never thought they were good value for money.

i’ve tried the elegant touch spray and it’s amazing, i really, really like it. it makes your nails touch dry instantly and then speeds up the ‘proper’ drying process. i love it, and it’s so cheap.

I cancelled Glossy Box earlier this year and eventually switched over to Birch Box to give that a try. I’ve had it for about 4 months now and I’m liking it more than I ever liked Glossy Box. They seem to have a better selection of products and pretty much everything they send me gets used up so I don’t have a drawer full of random unusable samples like I did with GB. The only thing I miss about GB is the box, it’s size and sturdiness made for great storage – but I can’t justify close to £13 for a fancy pink box haha!
