After filming my day – night makeup tutorial yesterday I thought I’d share with you the palette I used – the video should be up over the weekend. This is another Next beauty bargain available in stores for just £4 – again I’m afraid there are no links to it online at present. The kit is called ‘Golden Beauty’ and given the huge trend for neutrals I think it’ll be a big hit.
I was disappointed not to have a black, I generally think no palette is complete without a good matte black but the Aztec shade does almost makeup for it. Bizarrely, given how difficult matte formula’s seem to be for budget brands Next have pulled off some very impressive almost matte shades here with the kind of payoff you’d expect from the likes of MAC. I don’t have many shadow kits as compact as this so it’s a welcome addition and the current front runner for my travel makeup bag. The Amber and Bronze work really well together for the daytime and I deepened it all up a bit for night with Aztec in my crease and White Gold as a highlight. I really am tempted to take this away with me this weekend just to see how many combinations I can create with a limited shade range.
Also included in the kit is a bronze-toned lip gloss which I’m really not so keen on, it’s just really not me at all but how often do we really use lip glosses in palettes? They’re not practical, gloss needs to be retouched and I’m unlikely to take the whole thing on a night out with me just to reapply my lips. It’s an unnecessary addition in my opinion, a black shadow could have taken residence in that slot or better still a cream eyeliner!
Overall I love these eyeshadows – I’m as shocked as you are! Since I discovered Urban Decay I’ve been a little spoiled for quality I think. By no means am I saying these are on a par with UD but they’re some of the best I’ve tried in their price range and equally as nice as Sleek/MUA from what I’ve seen from each.
You’ll be able to see them in action soon but if you’ve tried these already, let me know!
