Handy Tips Handed Down

Title frame

When you were young and your Mum warned against those late nights you thought she was just harshing your buzz but in fact she was passing on a very important beauty tip, everyone needs their beauty rest!  There are so many simple yet staple guidelines worth handing down through generations that keep us looking and feeling our best. Crabtree & Evelyn want to know the tips you’ve picked up from others and those you would choose to bestow on your own friends and family. I have hundreds of ‘why did you let me do this?’ moments from my youth when I look back at photos of my teen self. Why did Mum let me pluck my brows in to one single line of hairs? Why did she leave the hair lightening spray within my reach ? – thus starting a love affair with botched home hair dying at the tender age of 11.

I think the most important beauty advice my Mum gave me though would have to be that you don’t HAVE to wear makeup every day. She thinks it’s mad that we get up early to put it on just to go to work or to the shops and although that may seem like a non-beauty tip it’s really the best one you can give. You are beautiful as you are and anything extra is just that. Oh and drink water.. I’ve never known anyone drink so much water and it would explain why she looks at least 10 year younger than her 50 some years.

My friend Laura and I got together to discuss the pearls of wisdom that had stuck with us as well as some advice from those of you who responded on twitter when I asked what your favourite beauty advice was, you can watch that video here – link – or embedded below.

I work in a shop and I’ve seen some truly appalling eyebrows. The other day I saw a woman who had completely removed her eyebrow hairs and she’d just drawn a straight, black, diagonal line. I died a little.

Amazing idea for a blogpost/video! The one my mum instilled in me from when I was about 11 was to take good care of your skin. I’ve had a day/night routine from since I was about 12 & wear sunscreen everyday and stay out of the sun. It’s something I really thank her for now, and I know my skin will thank me for it in the future. Great post 🙂

Great post. I think more women (and girls) would benefit from being not only okay but proud to leave the house wearing no makeup wherever they’re going… not only to the shops or work but to meet friends and go to town.

Cool post! The best tip my mom gave me eating fruit for breakfast and am only really appreciating it now…back then, I just wanted scrambled egg on toast 🙂

My mum’s best advice was to look after my skin with moisturiser – including the skin of my neck 🙂 I’m grateful now!
