Please excuse my FACE, haha, in these photos, I’m still recovering from what I consider to have been a life threatening cold but my husband would no doubt describe as a bit of a cough. I received these extensions last week and only today have I actually done my hair to a degree where I could try them on. The colour I was sent was ‘Manhattan Blonde’ however thy weren’t a perfect match so I dyed the main section chocolate caramel (from L’Oreal Castings) and added in some funky colours from Bleach London because I still have some residual warmth from the orange and pink I put in my hair a few weeks ago and I’m really happy with how the extentions blend with my hair now.
I’ve tried HK Extensions before – see here – and have been really happy with them so I didn’t doubt the quality when I received this new set. You get a good amount of hair (which I’ve not found with all brands) and the best feature is the quad weft you see above. It’s one thick weft sewn together on a netting which you put in the middle of your head, if you’re looking for extentions to add volume you will LOVE this – and I believe it can be purchased separately. It really cuts down the amount of hair you have to clip in and if your own hair isn’t all that thick you’d probably only need a couple of smaller wefts around the sides/front and you’d be good. Another revolutionary product from Dirty Looks is the ‘Blending Weft’ which is a very fine strip of hair with small clips that you can put higher on the head because they are so much subtler and easier to hide. I coloured them and used them as colour highlights, again if you already have length but wanted to add colour this would be a really good way to do it as they don’t feel bulky on your head.
My hair has been much thinner in the past year or so after my second baby so even if it wasn’t for the length I really enjoy the volume hair extensions give me. Clip ins are great for party season because there’s no commitment so you can have long hair one evening and short the next with no damage. I’ve heard that continual use of clip in extensions can be damaging on your hair and in truth it’s those horror stories that put me off more permanent methods. Much as I’d love to have a set professionally attached and always on my head I’d be too scared that the condition of my already thinning hair would worsen so this way I can have the best of both worlds and providing I’m not using them every day (weekends at most I would guess) there will be very minimal impact on my hair health.
