Itching For Change

Decoholic-Gray-Bedroom

I don’t know if it’s the season or what but I am just desperate to move my house around. Unfortunately there are only so many places things can go so my mind is now wandering to BIG change territory.. like switching rooms around and NEW furniture coming in to the mix.

When we first moved into our current home we had a housemate, I took the room with the most wardrobe space (it also has a SHOE CLOSET!) but the huge built in wardrobes really restrict how many combinations the furniture can move in to and as a frequent switcher upper that’s driven me a little nuts over the past 4 years. My daughter has since moved in to the biggest bedroom and I’ve often thought of switching with her but there are issue with the room that I’m not sure about. The wardrobes are old and don’t look great, they’re chipboard and melamine.. just not awesome and the handles are just as dated but a little funky in shape so not easy to just replace to update. The second problem is the window, it’s a bay which is lovely but the curtains are on a runner and it’s hanging by a thread. Because of my many decor changes over the years I have several curtain options I can switch to if the mood strikes but in that room I’d be stuck with what’s there. nice-grey-bedroom-ideas-915x610

on the plus side there would be much more room, the light in there is FANTASTIC so I could film videos in my bedroom without the need of a huge lighting system.. there’s not as much wardrobe space but I could definitely leave some of my lesser worn clothes in the closet they’re in now, I’m fairly certain an 8 year old doesn’t need that much storage so that’s not a major issue. It’s really the wardrobes putting me off. I can put in blinds and make all kinds of changes to things myself with a little time and money but changing cupboard doors can be expensive and we live in a rented house so that’s a significant enough change for me to need permission.

I’m tempted to just switch the basic stuff around today and see how it sits with me before comitting (or telling my husband – poor Lee, I do things like this all the time without asking him his opinion first) but I’m not sure.. hmm. I also really like that in the room I have now I can paint the walls in just an hour or two because of all the fitted wardrobes and he picture rail there’s very little wall I have to paint to make a big difference.. Ella’s room took me a full day to pain recently.. luckily I chose white so that could stay but I’m already thinking about grey accent walls…White-and-Grey-Bedroom-Ideal-Home-Housetohome

Do any of you ever get this urge to change EVERYTHING? It usually happens to me late at night, I moved my whole makeup room around last night and have been virtual IKEA shopping in my head ever since for shelving etc I could add.. it’s borderline obsessive.

My boyfriend and I have the same problem – we have odd shaped rooms so it’s really difficult to decorate and style. We opted for some white ikea drawers and a desk and painted the walls light grey with a dark grey feature wall and the decorative pieces like the curtains, duvet covers and lamps are teal. It’s simple, but we like it 🙂

I’m forever burdened with this problem, my room is such an awkward shape.. and now that I’ve moved to uni the student room is even worse! I really like the look of the shelf above the bed in the last picture!

I have a cupboard in my bedroom that contains the water tank and electricity meter but its got loads of extra space so I’ve been moving stuff around in there. I’m thinking about buying a chest of drawers to put in there too as my pjs and jeans are currently in plastic drawers that aren’t really big enough. I think its just the autumn season that makes women get like this. Maybe we’re nest building for winter haha.

Where did you get those photos from Khila? They’re so inspiring. I’ve just had my room done, I tend to go for quite plain walls and furniture and then switch up my bedding and accessories more, that way it’s not too expensive every time I change my mind haha 🙂 xxx
