Lights Of Emerald City

I am a serious nail polish collector and nothing has excited me quite like this in a long time! ‘Special’ polishes come and go, peaking my interest with their newness but this is a keeper.. so much so I’ve ordered a back up – well it is limited edition! I’m not one for the collections usually but recently OPI have really sucked me in, I bought 2 from their Mariah Carey range even though I knew I wouldn’t like the finish.. they seem to have some kind of spooky retail hold on me. I was hoping that the Oz collection would be dull enough to break my habit but alas.. I needed several shades. Luckily this was actually sent to me by the lovely folks at OPI to review for you equally lovely folks so my purse breathed a tiny sigh of relief.. until I went online for more.

I’m wearing it here over ‘Don’t Burst My Bubble’ a gorgeous soft pink from the same collection. It’s not opaque so not something I would usually wear alone but it makes the perfect base for a pretty top coat like this.

Lights Of Emerald City has large chunks of matte white and iridescent glitter suspended  in a clear polish. If L’Oreal thought they’d got the confetti effect down, they have some stiff competition here, it’s practically a ticker tape parade on your nail, just beautiful! As with all chunky glitters getting an even application is tricky, what you see in these pictures is more like 4 layers  (my nails feel about an inch thick right now) so you get a much sparser covering with just one coat but I think if you had the time and patience you could build this up to ‘opaque’ .. perhaps that’s best reserved for an accent nail, huh?

Overall I cannot get enough of this and have been wearing it over everything for the past week, if you are trying to choose just one thing from the Oz, The Great & Powerful collection make it this!

OPI is available online here priced at £11.50 per bottle

Sometimes I find that when applying polishes like this, it’s best to use a makeup sponge because it absorbs some of the excess base polish but leaves you with the glitter allowing much more glitter on the nail without the thickness of several coats. Might be worth a try! I REALLY want this polish now… x
