Long Hair, Don’t Care

You may have caught my twitter ramblings last week about hair extensions and weaves. I’ve never had super long hair that was all my own but I’ve dabbled with clip ins, glue in wefs and even individually applied extensions for years. Since my hair is just getting to that awkward shoulder length I’ve been getting bored, you may have noticed (I tend to dye ’cause I can’t grow) and I’ve looked a lot at other ways to add instant length to my hair. I had many conversations with many of you about hair weaves, basically the hair is sewn on to a horizontal braid (a track) on your head and it stays there until you remove it. It does of course come lose and need tightening every so often but for the most part it seems to be much gentler on your hair than anything else I’ve tried. I did hear a lot of horror stories however so I decided to stick with clip ins until I’ve done my research.

Lucky for me Xtra’s also saw my twitter dilemma and offered to send me some of their clip ins to try. I have actually used the ‘Crazy For Hair’ brand that they sell before, in fact I’m likely to buy that over anything else so I was more than happy to received some that matched my current hair colour. Unfortunately warm light brown was closer to dark strawberry blonde so although it was similar it was a little too gingery for my liking so I dyed my hair and extensions to the L’Oreal Castings Light Brown to blend them. It’s not exactly ‘light’ brown I’m sure you’ll agree but I think I was heading darker anyway.. I may be done with my blonde phase for now (famous last words?)

I do like the idea of Ombre’ing the ends though as my own hair has never been long enough but I love that trend! Overall I’m glad I went with the clip ins first as it is a lot of maintenance straightening and curling trying to blend them when you’re hair is as short as mine so I’m not sure I’d want to go down the more permanent route just yet but I love being able to add that extra length whenever I want and feel the satisfaction of taking them all out at bed time.

Obviously the condition of the hair straight out of the box is a lot sleeker and smoother but I find they blend better after a wash as it gives them a more realistic texture. My hair is not sleek and shiny most days and given that I have to fry my ends with a straightener prior to putting them in it definitely helps to put a little wave or volume in to the extensions in my experience. Once my hair is longer I wont need to straighten it quite so much but if you’re trying to grow your hair the last thing you want is to be using heat on it every day which makes clip ins the obvious choice for me right now.

The length I’m wearing is 14in and you can purchase from Xtras Online

I think it looks fab! So you can now put these in whenever you want? Do you have to take them out at night, before bed?

The longer hair actually makes you look quite young and best to stick with clip ins as you wont damage your hair, I had pre bonded ones last year and I lost alot of thickness. xx

I think you suit shorter hair – handy though that you can add length like this 🙂

they’re both weaves but I’m talking about a braided weave, I don’t know much about the micro rings but gemsmaquillage did a review on hers on her channel x

Once the time of the extension is up and you then decide to take them out, you’ll be surprised on how long it grew since you’ve used the micro bead extension.
