MAC – High Tea & Lovelorn

I’ve never been a big lustre fan but I was watching an old Essie Button video recently where she reeled off her top 10 favourites from the MAC lipstick line and they were almost all that finish.. I decided I needed to try some more. I took a couple of her suggestions and I have to say, I wouldn’t necessarily have chosen them having seen them on the stand but I like them both on.

High Tea looks golden in the bullet and I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near it but I do like it, it’s different to anything else I own (because, as I said I wouldn’t normally have chosen it) and it gives only a hint of colour.. though this will obviously vary depending on how pigmented your lips are. It’s something I will wear in place of a more opaque nude when I’m sporting more dramatic eyes.

Lovelorn is much more my colour. I dont know how but it brings out colour in my face that High Tea seems to zap completely. I love my bright pinks but find mid tones more difficult to work with as they’re often either too warm or too cool.. I don’t love peach on my and I’m not cool enough toned to wear the likes of St Germaine – I swear I’d look like a drag queen – but this is just right for those not so loud lipstick moments.

My little dalliance with lustres hasn’t left me desperate to try more, I can’t lie. I don’t love them, they’re a little patchy on my not so perfectly smooth lips and I definitely prefer the Cremesheen variety but I do like the sheer look and one of my favourites, Plumful is a lustre so y’know.. y’never’know. Recommendations welcome!

I really want Pink Plaid – it looks like such a wearable pink but I don’t own any MAC lipsticks yet! Will definately check out High Tea on the stand when I go.

For me, I feel the High Tea….brings more attention to your eyes (warmer) whilst the Lovelorn distracts attention from your eyes …and is too pink….but we all have our likes/dislikes…and preferences…;))

I love the Lovelorn, may have to purchase this for myself. A really lovely coral I would recommend is my new purchase from MAC which is called “Costa chic” which is a frost it’s a lovely pale orangey coral. But my most favourite of all time which I wear to death at work and out and about is “sunny Seoul” which is a cream sheen it’s more of a pinkey coral and I’ve had so many compliments when I wear it, it seems to brighten up my face as I’m really fair and only corals really suit me. Hopefully you give either one a go, I’d loved to read what you think 😀 xx

Lovelorn is beautiful – I have a real love/hate relationship with how many different shades of mac lipsticks I end up lusting after from beauty blogs!

My very first MAC product was bought for me when my daughter was working in the Bahamas…and it was Lovelorn!!! I kind of wondered why she had gone for that colour…as it wasn’t ‘me’ and I generally only wear nudes! But I really think it’s one of those ‘all rounder’ shades. I wore it out pretty quickly, as with all MAC lipsticks I’ve had since…but I think I need to re-visit this shade, it’s lovely on you Khila and I need to branch away from the nudes again!!!
