I picked this up for a song at my local CCO and initially thought it would get a lot of wear over the Autumn season but 2 months later, I’ve used it twice and this post was still in drafts.. not so great. I don’t own a lot of paint pots, they’re expensive when you consider the great drugstore equivalents available (Maybelline, I’m looking at you) so when I do add to my collection I like to make it a special one. When I saw this I thought it would be a pretty neutral base when I’m not doing much eyeshadow wise but it’s more cool toned than I expected and something about it just doesn’t suit me.
In these pictures it’s coming off more silver in the pot but in reality I thought it would be a pale gold colour, kind of tarnished.. I’m not sure if it’s my eyes or maybe I was getting muddles with their other popular shade – Antique GOLD – but it was just a bit disappointing all round. It’s a lovely colour it’s just not for me, the finish is beautiful and you can get an opaque metallic lid with this that will stay relatively crease free..much like my other paint pots.
The problem is that silvers and blues just don’t look right on me, it could be my brown eyes but I think it’s more my actual skintone than anything. I continue to try them and almost always come away looking like a drag queen in the 80s. To be fair my Mum warned me of this a long time ago, I remember as if it were yesterday.. ‘you can’t wear blue like I can’t wear blue’ – said to the 16 year old who’d just applied her makeup (albeit badly) and was about to leave the house. It stung at the time but she was right and silver falls in to that category too.
I wont stop wearing it of course I just wont look good doing it 😉
