Makeup Storage From IKEA

Variera Insert For Spice Jars – £3 / Variera Utensil Tray – £2 / Variera Utensil Tray Add On – £1 / Moppe Mini Chest Of Drawers – £17 / Godmorgan Storage Set – £9 / Alex 6 Drawer Unit – £85 / Alex 9 Drawer Unit – £85

I’ve had my eye on the Alex units from IKEA for some time but they’re pretty expensive so I’ve put it off the purchase.. until now. I want a big unit that holds everything with room to grow so I’m not just biting one bullet, I’m biting two (I will be avoiding my online statement for a while) but I just can’t decide whether to go for the tall 9 drawer of the squat 6 drawer. I think I’m going for the 6 drawer because they’re more shallow and I like the idea of being able to lay out my products.. plus I don’t think I’d find the very deep drawers in the tall unit as practical for the purpose. The second dilemma is if I do go with the 6 drawer do I stack them next to each other creating a larger surface or on top of each other creating more floor space in an already small room.. seems like  an easy one but I like the potential surface space to photograph products. hmm. Any suggestions welcome and if you have one of the units I’m looking at I’d love to hear your thoughts as I’m really torn at the moment.

I have the 9 draw Alex unit and i would definitely recommend it, I feel like it is easy to separate things into different categories than with the 6 draw unit, it also doesn’t take up a lot of space. They’re definitely worth the money, the unit is sturdy and easy to put together, the flat pack is very heavy though!

Shallow drawers are probably better. It would depend what room ur putting them in if u want them side by side or not. I think it would work better side by side though.

I use the little MDF drawers/chest to store some of my make up. I’ve painted mine with some left over kitchen door paint so its a nice white glossy finish, looks more expensive and make up proof!

I like the 6 drawer unit better – the categories that come to mind are: lips, eyes, skin care/creams/cleaners, foundations, face, tools. Or combine face/foundation and you’ve got an extra drawer.

With the deep drawers you’re stacking things and the stuff of the bottom will be forgotten and left unused.

Are they going on the floor? I imagine the 9 drawer would, since it stands at roughly 4 feet. But the 6 drawer is only about 2 feet. It would make more sense (visibility-wise) to put that on another surface, so you’re not loosing floor space with that. At that height you can go stacked or side-by-side. Benefits to both. What about side by side on the window sill (I’m thinking this is going in that multi-purpose play room…? – and that felt minorly stalkerish/creepy haha).

I love the Moppe chest – didn’t notice it in the Ikea in US, but I’ll have to look closer next time. I’d use it more for storing junk like chargers though – got plenty of that!

I bought the Moppe drawers last year for keeping my make up in and it’s perfect! For me it holds all of my make up but for you, I reckon it’d be great for putting products in that you wanna use next. Really easy to paint/customise too!

I like the Helmer’s, you don’t show them in your post but they are really awesome, I have two of them and the drawers are really long but not really deep.

Fleur de Force has the tall 9 drawer one. You can see it in her YouTube videos. I’ve been eyeing up makeup storage too, but have very very very limited space 🙁 c

I use the Moppe mini chest of draws for the large majority of my make up and the Skurar candle holders for my brushes, nail paints, concealers and mascaras! I’ve got through lots of Moppe draws in both my bedroom and my study room, i think i’ve go 4 3 different ones now!! x
