Maybelline Cover Stick

IMG_6482

First impressions? Not good.

I don’t know about you but I haven’t used a cover stick since the Rimmel Blemish one I used to use as a teenager so with only that to compare it to I was expecting a dry, thick consistency but this is completely different. I think on the one hand it’s a good thing that it’s not the traditional formula as many who perhaps don’t like that full coverage but would prefer a stick concealer will be happily surprised that there is now a sheerer offering at the table but for most I think it will be a dud.

I was looking to replace my recently rediscovered and much-loved Urban Decay concealer pencil with something cheaper, as this is new on the market I decided to give it a go but unfortunately it’s nothing like what I expected. It’s hard to describe but I guess it’s more like an under eye coverage but in a blemish targeted applicator.. strange! It is to concealer what tinted moisturiser is to foundation.. in fact you may even go as far as to call this a ‘BB concealer’ (I’m shocked Maybelline didn’t go that way actually) as the coverage is really quite light.

I would use this perhaps if I was having a good skin day and wanted to conceal a little redness or even out my skin but I wouldn’t reach for it to cover anything substantial like a breakout so if you’re looking for something sheer, give this a go but if you’re looking to rediscover the concealer stick of days gone by.. this will be hugely disappointing – you’ve been warned!

I had the exact same experience with the Physician’s Formula BB concealer hahahaha which is totally a thing! But it’s not opaque enough to cover my blemishes, so I end up just using it around my nose for some redness. Won’t be picking this up either (though now I am interested in the Urban Decay…)

Sounds like it aint doing a good job… but I guess I might check it out since I usually need lots of concealing for my under eye ring….My Kate concealer is doing just a so-so job to even conceal my horrible under eye ring…. But Urban Decay Concealer Pencil sounds like a great product to check …

There is a blistex lip “balm” that i love..called lip splash. Its a bit difficult to describe but is essentially a liquidy balm that looks like a gloss but is 100%non sticky.

There are 2 versions, one smells of vanilla and the other is medicated or soothing and is a bit tingly.

Thanks for the review! I don’t know if I’m going to try this…

I bought it to use as a touch up for if after a long day I have any redness showing through. So hopefully it will still do that.

Never been a fan of concealer sticks! Find they’re usually pretty underwhelming and usually a little bit lumpy and thick. This sounds strange to me but I suppose great for someone who has very clear skin but slightly uneven and red.

The No7 concealer stick is the best one i’ve tried for covering breakouts. I always come back to it whenever i try something new.

The revlon photoready concealer is pretty good as far as ‘drugstore’ brands go. It’s not as pigmented as my MAC concealer, but it has decent enough coverage on blemishes.
