This stuff has been internationally raved about on YouTube so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a tube of my own. Historically I get on well with Maybelline mascaras but I guess you can’t like everything, this one’s not for me. My first irk is with the brush, the artwork promises a much longer bristled applicator when in fact it’s so stubbly I may as well use the handle. It also claims to be clump free which unfortunately due to this brush design is near impossible as there is very little separation to be had. Full disclosure – I prefer the One By One which probably means I’m not the Rocket’s target market as this is more volume than length, that being said it’s no good for me when layering two mascara’s either because of the clumping problem.
I always say it but my lashes really are rubbish to start with so any formula has a challenge on it’s hands but here are my before and afters..
I have two coats on the top and just one on the bottom so you can see that with just one coat there is very little clumping but unless you have long, curly lashes you are going to want more than just a black coating, right? I also struggled to get the bristles right in to the roots without smudging on my lid because they are so short, I really don’t understand why this is so widely raved about but bear in mind that this is just one persons opinion and it’s outweighed tremendously by positive reviews.
Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Express is currently on offer here for £5.99 so if you do want to try it, now’s a good time!
