A couple of months ago I attended the Next A/W Press Day. I have always been a die hard Next fan, you may have noticed a lot of my OOTD posts are Next (and H&M) heavy and there’s good reason for that. The clothing is all good quality, it lasts and whenever the new directory lands on my doorstep I know I’ll have a wishlist as long as my arm. One thing I’ve never really branched out into is Next’s beauty range. Last Christmas I received some bits and bobs that I quite liked but the quality was hit and miss and it didn’t entice me to go out and buy more. That being said the press samples I received in my goodie bag were actually really nice and if they’re anything to go by the new season might just bring Next to a whole new audience.
First and foremost I want to talk about the fragrance. Do any of you remember the old impulse body spray called o2? It was back in the day before it was a mobile network, it came in a green can and I loved it! The Love Glamour Eau de Toilette smells identical to my memory of o2 so not only was I pleasantly surprised (I’m super picky when it comes to perfume and didn’t expect to like it) but I was also hit with this wave of nostalgia that I still feel every time I wear it. Thumbs up from me!
The makeup palette is also nice, the pigmentation is drugstore quality but then it’s in the drugstore price range so it’s to be expected. I do like that rather than go for just blues or greys as is the norm for evening shadows these days they chose 4 contrasting yet complimentary shades to create a palette that will appeal to a wider range of skin tones/eye colours. The lip colour included is glossy and sheer which may be disappointing but again I think it’s a smart move as not everyone wants a bright pop of colour but anyone can wear this.
Lastly the tinted lip balm. From the swatches above the lip balm is top right so you can see for yourself it really is barely tinted however it’s dubbed a balm rather than a gloss and I don’t know about you but I don’t want to have to worry about it smearing across my face throughout the day. That’s the main reason my lipsticks get so little love. It’s nice, a standard lip balm , not anything outstanding, I like the tin.. but the smell… wow! The smell I LOVE! It’s named ‘oh so cherry’ and oh so cherry it is.. the scent is so strong and I know not everyone wants that directly below their nose but it’s so delicious I challenge you not to lick it off before you’re out the door.
Overall I’m really pleased to see Next upping their game in the beauty department. One range I am more than interested in is this…
When I saw this stuff at the press day I was so excited.. it looks so super luxe but the prices start at just £8. Given that I haven’t had chance to get in to a store and hunt for these yet it seemed the obvious thing to do was order a candle in each fragrance.. that’s normal, right? I am secretly hoping to love New York and Paris but having read the descriptions online I think London and Milan are more my kind of thing. They should be here on Monday so expect some gushing in a post to follow.. I’m already thinking of the best place to display the four side by side.. so pretty!
Anyway that’s it from me on Next for today but I did film a rare OOTD video yesterday featuring some new season items (which I purchased, just FYI) so if you’re a fan like me you have that to look forward to at the weekend!
