Can you believe this was our 3rd trip to New York and the 1st time we braved the subway? If I took only one thing away from this visit that I would pass along to someone else it would be to make use of this very inexpensive transport system. It’s nowhere near as complicated as London’s Underground as the whole city is basically a grid and it follows that pattern.. with the cold weather it was an absolute godsend! We had planned to go on a boat around the island but it was so bitter we couldn’t face it so for the second time we visited the Staten Island Ferry – free service and the best pictures I have of Manhattan. Lee had arranged an upgrade for our anniversary but it wasn’t ready until our second day so when we got back we had an awesome new room complete with roses, champagne and cupcakes. For anyone wondering we stayed at The Ameritania and the location and both rooms we had (the first was standard and small but still very nice) were great – would highly recommend it if you were considering a trip! We finished off the day with a return to Hooters where (as you do) I attempted to recreate the picture Lee took 4 years ago.. geek!

These pictures are making me want to go back to NYC so bad. I’ve only been once back in like ’06 so I can’t wait to get back there asap. I took the subway quite a few times when I was there although I tried to walk most of the time so I wouldn’t miss out on anything. We also took the ferry and like you said; it gives you the best views!

I love the Metro…from my very first visit I used the subway right from Newark airport (ok it was New Jersey transit or something but still an underground train!) was $12.50 direct to Penn Station and easy as pie, hotel across the road. We bought the 7 day metro pass $27 I think for unlimited travel on the subway & buses. Never got a bus but heck we used the subway loads. Fantastic life underground…the buskers were brilliant. Me and my daughter had a great little dance to a reggae artist. I never knew Hooters was in NYC (never forget Jessica Simpson asking if buffalo wings were from a Buffalo!) so thank you for the heads up! I’m going to go on Wings Wednesday $9.99 for 10 wings…sorted!!! 😉

I went to New York for my honeymoon in December 2010, never braved the subway and walked everywhere! I wish I had now. Would love to go back.

These bring back memories-I went to New York and DC a few years ago…I say a few, it’s more like 10 or 12…with the youth orchestra I was in. We went on tour and did various concerts including one in central park, it was amazing! We did all the typical sightseeing things and I remember going to the Stardust Diner. I’d love to go back though because this all happened when I was a teen, before I really discovered shopping and when I just had a few basics makeup wise-I would definitely take better advantage of the opportunity now lol. We’re currently busy saving for a house but I think a trip to the US is next on the cards after that x
