Quest For The Holy Grail

IMG_0768I was sitting down to do my makeup last week when it occurred to me that much of what I’m currently using has been in my daily rotation for almost a year.. if not longer. I don’t award any product ‘holy grail’ status lightly so I can’t tell you every single thing I used here is irreplaceable by something else but there are definitely a handful of serious must-haves that I’d run out and repurchase immediately if I had to start over.

Estee Lauder Double Wear (Bone)

I have tried COUNTLESS low cost foundations and for a time was totally in love with Revlon’s Colourstay however when they changed the formula I could never find anything affordable to replace it. I eventually caved and picked up Double Wear and never looked back. By far the best foundation I’ve ever used and if you’re looking for something buildable (anything from light to high depending on how you apply it/which version you choose) and super long wearing this totally lives up to the hype.

Freedom Pro Highlight in Ambient

I have the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette and it’s really beautiful but it’s HELLA expensive, y’all! It was a gift and I love it but I would never repurchase it because the lighting powders from Freedom and Makeup Revolution are just as good for a fraction of the price. This one in particular is my absolute favourite, a subtle sheen I can use lightly all over or heavy high on my cheeks. There’s a slight warmth to it that can almost replace a blush (for a cheek-colour-phobe like me) too, just super pretty for an amazing price.

IMG_0811Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I have a post coming up pitting this against the Benefit Roller Lash and *spoiler alert* this still comes out on top. Mascara is so subjective but for me this is the perfect balance of a dry enough, thick enough formula and a brush that manages to grab and coat every lash while separating and defining.

MAC Satin Lipstick in Faux

Ahhh it’s the my-lips-but-better nude lipstick I always dreamed of. When I first started blogging nude lips were a major trend and nothing that everyone else seemed to love suited me AT ALL so this deeper nude trend is a big winner for me. Faux is the perfect rosy mauve on me and worn with Essence Plum Cake liner (as below) it’s my go to lip combination and one I’m always questioned about.

You can see each of these items in action as well as what else I used in this video..

I can’t believe I’ve never tried Double Wear before! I’ve tried the concealer and it worked well so I definitely want to try out the foundation soon! My favourite foundation of the moment is definitely L’Oreal Infalliable Pro Matte (there’s a non-matte version too!) – it gives amazing coverage, lasts all day and looks flawless! I’d definitely recommend if you haven’t tried it! xx

I don’t think I have the right skin type for double wear but I do love how it seems to go on so well and flawlessly. I think my tried and trusted holy grail products is Bare Minerals matte foundation powder. I’ve never found anything that comes close to beating it!

Double Wear is 100% one of my favourite foundations but I love mixing it up and trying new things! Nars laguna will forever be my holly grail though

Great video and post! I love the Nars Creamy concealer. Desperately need to get my hands on the Maybelline Lash Sensational. Everyone talks about it in the beauty blogging world…!

I used to use estee lauder doublewear till they messed with the formula and now i hate it. Anyone who used to use it knows the difference. It’s not as long wearing and gets shiny. I now use either mac studio fluid or l’oreal infallible pro matte. Cheaper alternative to the brow gel by benefit is the essence one. (I swear its identical) and the nars concealer is maybelline fit me (blends better too) xx

I want to try the Estee Lauder Double wear when I run out of my Clinique Perfectly Real – wasn’t sure if it would be too heavy for my skin though. I love the Maybelline Lash Sensational – first heard about it on your blog and tried it recently! I just love it so thank you 🙂

I totally love the Maybelline Mascara – Probably the best I have used. The Waterproof is amazing if you want to wear mascara while on holiday – Does not budge at all!

I am also totally obsessed with a mac lipstick at the moment however mine is Velvet teddy. Been wearing it everyday. Mac faux looks like it may suit my skin tone though! x

I haven’t tried Double Wear but I have the Double Wear To Go and it’s amazing. Slightly lighter consistency I believe and comes in a great portable compact thingy. My other holy grails: about 4 varieties of Bobbi Brown nude lipstick; a YSL Lip Tint In Oil to go on top; Dior Show mascara for natural but defined lashes and Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Shimmering Nudes Allover Illuminator (my version of a Nars The Multiple’). I wish MAC lipsticks all came in the clear perspex charlotte Olympia casing!
