I know it’s not quite 2014 but you usually make your resolutions ahead of time, right? I already filmed a video about them for which I did not plan and I always regret writing the post AFTER because my thoughts are better formed and the post is generally much more coherent but what are ya gonna do? That actually leads me nicely to my first resolution..

1. Care less.

Not care less as such but just relax more. I put so much pressure on myself when it comes to my blog and YouTube that in 2013 I felt it kind of took over my life. I would be so stressed out about getting a video out by a certain time and really when you sit down and look back, would it have mattered if that post went up a day later.. or not at all? Sometimes there’s a monetary reason for the rush and pressure but most of the time I’ve committed myself to too much and I haven’t taken a step back to assess whether I really need to do it all. My internet stuff has given me some amazing opportunities and best of all it’s allowed me to be home with my son 5 days a week which I am so grateful for but once my blog was my main source of income I became some kind of workaholic monster. What’s the point of having more time at home with your family if you never stop working? This year I resolve to take time off if I need it and have at least one (preferably several) nights a week without my laptop on my knee.

2. Make better use of social media

This isn’t something I touched on in my video (damn) and it’s more of a ‘professional’ resolution than the first but if I intend to grow my audience I need to put more time into putting myself and my content out there rather than just creating it. I have spent a year putting out as much new stuff as I could muster but if I don’t promote it in the right way it’s like the proverbial tree in the forest. This year I intend to create less (but better quality) content and focus more on promoting it. The two social networks I don’t use enough are pinterest and facebook and another time saver in the evenings will be Hoot Suite (an tweet scheduler).

3. Go on non-shopping related days out

This was a partial resolution last year and one I didn’t do very well with. I did save money and we bought a new car but we continued to spend out weekends at our various local shopping haunts. I want to plan more days out with the kids, we have a Disney (Paris) trip coming up that I’m really excited about and depending on how that goes I’d like to take a few weekends away as a family. Up to now it’s been tough traveling with Milo as he doesn’t sleep well in unfamiliar environments but I’m hoping as he gets older that will be easier.. Disney will be the ultimate test. Aside from that we have a local zoo and so many parks, when the weather is nice I want to actually get  out there and do something as a family, recently every weekend is the same and I want to change that.

They are my 3 main goals, I’m not promising anything diet or fitness related because that never works, does it? I want to use my taime more effectively with regards to my blog and YouTube so that I can spend more time with my family and I want that time to be better. If this is going to be a long term thing I need to find a way to fit it in with my life rather than the other way around.

What are your goals for 2014?

These are exactly what I need to be doing except remove the shopping and insert with sleeping! It’s insane that I push myself to the very limit in the week and then have to spend the weekend lying around in shock lol! Often I think people don’t realise what it takes to run a blog or a channel…and we’re all still learning as we go along. Not sure I’d have it any other way though :-))

It’s fantastic that I can make a living doing something I love to do but once it is your income and not just a hobby it does become SO much work to keep everything going. Unlike a regular job you can’t call in sick or take annual leave cause it’s a one man show. All fun and games though and as I tweeted your blog has helped enormously when I’ve been struggling and really helped me put things in to perspective.. hoping for a more productive and less ‘pushed to the limit’ 2014 πŸ™‚

I just made a post about my new years resolutions, but they are get healthy (mentally and physically), work more on my blog and keep a diary, one for feelings/writing and one as a planner.

    Hopefully I’ll stick to them!

These sound like great resolutions Khila! I hope you manage to relax more because you do seem like one busy lady. Family weekends would be a welcome pleasure I’m sure. I hope you enjoy your Disney trip, I’ve always wanted to go. I’ve been to the Florida one but I’ve been dying to go to Paris.
Good luck with achieving your goals! I wish you all the best for you and your family in 2014!

Goal for 2014? Start making videos! I would love for blogging to become full time for me, but I have a feeling when I start medical school it will take a back seat to uni and three kids.
A goal for us this year was to have a family day every week, no laptop, no phone, just us and the kids doing something fun, and while it hasn’t happened every week we have had so much more random fun this year!

I’ve made a resolution only to spend on things I need. I guess it does match in with your non shopping days out! Haha. I agree with making better use of social media. I also want to reply lo everyone on my blog within twenty four hours. Xx

I never usually do resolutions as I can never keep them for more than a couple of weeks, so this year’s resolutions are blog based, ie to stick to a blogging schedule, be more organised etc

Hopefully these resolutions will improve my fledgling blog, and I can have a blog like yours!

Enjoy Disneyland Paris, I hope they weather will be much nicer than it is today!

    Happy new year!
