Last year when the new wave of lip stains hit the market I took two on a test drive, one of which was the Revlon Just Bitten in Twilight. You can see that post here. I was entirely unimpressed but when I first heard about these balm stains I was excited. First of all they look and feel identical to the Clinique Chubby Sticks which retails at almost £10 more so we feel like we’re getting some luxury on the high street. Secondly they really are balmy. Even just swatching them they glide on to the skin and although they do leave a stain they feel moisturising.
It seems balmy… it seems nourishing but I’m here to tell you… it dried out my lips! I’m not trashing this product by any means, I love it! But if you, like me, are a lip balm freak don’t expect this to replace your balm for a second. I’d suggest you layer it over your regular lip salve as it’s very misleading, all day long I was rubbing my lips together remarking on the great feeling of this drugstore lip product but the following morning my lips were in need of some serious moisture. That being said it’s at least 50% better than the previous formula in every way. It wears much better.. still clings to drier areas but it leaves a stain on the rest where it’s predecessor disappeared completely. I picked this up in Superdrug for £5.99 on special offer but these Kissable Balm Stains retail for £7.99 regular price and regardless of the downsides they feel lovely to apply and the packaging is so great I would definitely buy more.. just maybe when Boots are running a 3 for 2.
The shade I have is honey and is available online here
I’m considering purchasing a Clinique version to compare… would you be interested in that review?
