You may remember my initial review of the Revlon Moisture Stain.. I was less than impressed. I received a press sample ahead of the launch and wanted to give my first impressions but knew that one shade did not necessarily give an accurate depiction of an entire range. A great example of this is the L’Oreal Glam Stain Shine Splash wassernames. I have 5 or 6 of those, some are great, others are terrible.. you just never know so I wanted to give these another shot once I could get my hands on a few of the colours that I thought might be more vibrant.
I picked up Barcelona Nights (top) and Parisian Passion (bottom) hoping they would be a little bolder than Cannes Crush (the colour I received). They definitely are my kind of colours upon first application, Parisian Passion is a beautiful, sheer plum, perfect for the new season and even though I don’t LOVE it I will still get some wear from it because it’s so lovely. Barcelona Nights is a bright pink that settles a little deeper than the photo below but it still a nice pop of colour.
Each of the three I’ve tried so far give a translucent wash of colour and a nice balmy gloss which is comfortable on the lips and doesn’t feel sticky. They’re less drying than your average stain but they’re not exactly moisturising either. The thing is they’re not as GOOD as your average stain so the fact that they don’t have all of the negative qualities isn’t really much of a trade off for me. For the most part they just don’t last.. they’re a liquid lipstick that leaves behind a subtle stain that disappears within an hour or two and will absolutely need topping up throughout the day/night.
I have found that no two are created equal, Barcelona Nights is by FAR the best of the three I have for staying power, the other two and really just glosses for me.. I would feel the need to be checking a mirror every hour or two to be sure they hadn’t worn away in some crazy, non-cute way which is not what you want but Barcelona Nights seems to keep it’s stain for longer and fade a little nicer. I’d be interested in trying more but at £7.99 a pop I’m not willing to buy them all in the search for 1 or 2 worth having. Fingers crossed I can deduce the best from other reviews and hopefully I’ve given you at least one worth buying from this one.
If you want to see how they wear you can read my original post here. One last thing to mention is that temperature seems to play a part in the consistency of these products. If they’re anything below room temperature the formula seems to get firmer so when you apply it it looks bitty and streaky on the lips.. it’s not a major issue as it melts on contact with the skin and as it warms up it blends nicely but I thought it was worth mentioning because the first time I tried one I was NOT impressed at all.. the second time the texture was totally different, obviously all depends on where you store it.
