Revlon Moisture Stain – The Follow Up

IMG_2036You may remember my initial review of the Revlon Moisture Stain.. I was less than impressed. I received a press sample ahead of the launch and wanted to give my first impressions but knew that one shade did not necessarily give an accurate depiction of an entire range. A great example of this is the L’Oreal Glam Stain Shine Splash wassernames. I have 5 or 6 of those, some are great, others are terrible.. you just never know so I wanted to give these another shot once I could get my hands on a few of the colours that I thought might be more vibrant.

IMG_2037IMG_2040I picked up Barcelona Nights (top) and Parisian Passion (bottom) hoping they would be a little bolder than Cannes Crush (the colour I received). They definitely are my kind of colours upon first application, Parisian Passion is a beautiful, sheer plum, perfect for the new season and even though I don’t LOVE it I will still get some wear from it because it’s so lovely. Barcelona Nights is a bright pink that settles a little deeper than the photo below but it still a nice pop of colour.

IMG_2449IMG_2034Each of the three I’ve tried so far give a translucent wash of colour and a nice balmy gloss which is comfortable on the lips and doesn’t feel sticky. They’re less drying than your average stain but they’re not exactly moisturising either. The thing is they’re not as GOOD as your average stain so the fact that they don’t have all of the negative qualities isn’t really much of a trade off for me. For the most part they just don’t last.. they’re a liquid lipstick that leaves behind a subtle stain that disappears within an hour or two and will absolutely need topping up throughout the day/night.

I have found that no two are created equal, Barcelona Nights is by FAR the best of the three I have for staying power, the other two and really just glosses for me.. I would feel the need to be checking a mirror every hour or two to be sure they hadn’t worn away in some crazy, non-cute way which is not what you want but Barcelona Nights seems to keep it’s stain for longer and fade a little nicer. I’d be interested in trying more but at £7.99 a pop I’m not willing to buy them all in the search for 1 or 2 worth having. Fingers crossed I can deduce the best from other reviews and hopefully I’ve given you at least one worth buying from this one.

If you want to see how they wear you can read my original post here. One last thing to mention is that temperature seems to play a part in the consistency of these products. If they’re anything below room temperature the formula seems to get firmer so when you apply it it looks bitty and streaky on the lips.. it’s not a major issue as it melts on contact with the skin and as it warms up it blends nicely but I thought it was worth mentioning because the first time I tried one I was NOT impressed at all.. the second time the texture was totally different, obviously all depends on where you store it.

I bought barcelona nights and a nude one (can’t remember the name). I found barcelona nights to be quite good, it wore down to a pop of colour but, I agree, it needed topping up every few hours. The nude colour was awful, very streaky and made me look dead. So much so, that I threw it out after trying it twice (I never do that). Very hit and miss, I also won’t be buying any more.

I didn’t like theses at all, I found them to be a real let down which is such a shame after the lip butters and matte balms as they were so good. The colours are lovely its just a shame about the actual product itself x

Hmm, I’ve heard so many mixed reviews on these that I’ve been hesitating to try them. As you’ve said they seem to be really hit and miss, but that Barcelona Nights shade might be too gorgeous to pass up haha x

I have bucked the trend and not bought any of these yet because I have heard such mixed reviews on them. Especially when i saw your first thoughts video – just seems like too much of a gamble. Would much rather spend my £7.99 on something I know is going to be amazing and I will love! 🙂 x

I feel like boots were doing a 2 for £10 deal on revlon.. Only in the last week or so..
I picked up two for the matte balms… I am converted after your reviews!
I looked at these products but whilst I liked the colours I felt they were too sticky for me!

I just purchased some of these myself and loved them so much I went back and purchased some more. I’m a real sucker for Revlon lip products because for some reason they just do everything right with lip products!

I was SO excited for these to launch and ordered two shades from Revlon. I don’t even think I’ve tried them properly (I ordered them about three weeks ago) because the negative reviews have put me off! Revlon were doing so well with their lip launches!

I didn’t think much to these either, with so many good ones out there! I did a post about them on my blog here
