Revlon Moon Candy – Eclipse

As I type this I’m listening to my newly downloaded Westlife album so apologies if an occasional irrelvant lyric slips in.. it’s just so darn catchy! Who else was excited about the launch of Revlons new ‘Nail Art’ duos? I generally stay away from Revlon nail polish wise as it’s not my favourite and for the price point I can buy Essie but these babies were too much to resist and I’ll be honest.. I’d had a few cocktails before this particular Boots trip 0 might have accidentally completed my Lip Butter collection while I was at it.. oops!

I’ve seen swatches of this online and it looked really good – example – so I’m not sure if I’m being too hard on it or it’s my poor application but I just don’t like it. Lee actually said it looked awesome but he likes anything a bit funky which I will agree that this is.. it’s just not quite what I expected. First of all I wasn’t expecting the flakes to be as large or create as much texture as they do, that’s probably my biggest irk.. it looks messy. My second problem is that the first time I tried this I the top coat totally removed the base coat. You have to wait for the base layer to be 100% dry.. like an hour maybe before you add the top coat because it will smudge the opaque colour underneath and it will look rubbish! As with all chunky glitter it’s hard to get a good smattering on each nail and given that these are not uniform shapes it’s tough to layer as you can overlap and end up with fully iridescent nails which isn’t really the effect you’re going for with this.

I do feel I’m judging it a little harshly and it’s not as bad as I make it sound.. I will be trying it over other colours but I’m just not as wowed by it as I thought I would be I guess. It’s a nice idea and well executed it looks really cool but I just can’t get it right and much as I love nail polish I want it to work for me not the other way around. One last note, the deep purple base colour is amazing quality, one coat application but it’s thick  which I think is why I had the streaking issue with the top coat so bear that in mind and if you’ve tried this yourself please let us know what you think of it!

I was quite interested to see these in action, but I think I’ll give it a miss. Models Own do a chunky glitter (I think it’s the disco ball collection) that looks almost identical, but has the exact same problem. The chunky glitter pulls at the base coat and the liquid it’s suspended it looks sort of gloopy.
Maybe you can find a way to make it work, though!

yes!! that’s the main issue.. I just dont have to time to be starting over.. but I’m determined to find the best way to make this work

Such a lovely combination and the top coat looks so promising, such a shame that it’s not worked out for you 🙁

I would suggest instead of painting the top coat on in strokes, try getting the polish on one side of the brush and dab it on in layers. That is what I have found to work the best. Let me know if that works better.

I did that to get a good covering of flakes but it takes so long to dry and then it’s a really chunky layer 🙁

These look very nice but after reading this I’m not so sure. I couldn’t be bothered re-applying my nail polish because the op coat had ruined it, I’m glad I read this post. Models Own have brought out some similar products, maybe they will be better! x

oh no, so dissappointed! i have the models own snowflake polish and i hate the consistancy- its so chunky its barely useable and its impossible to get a smooth mani. ill give this a miss!

    Very nice !!!!

i do think they look quite nice, but I thought exactly the same about the new models own nail duos! The glitter is so chunky it makes your nails catch on everything and feels rough! And i find the glitter formula really thick so it takes a million years to dry! THEN takes a million years to remove! I did get alot if compliments on them but i just dont know if its worth the effort?! Maybe just for special occasions haha!

I’m mainly disappointed that no Westlife lyrics slipped into this blog post. Love you more for the fact that youre a Westlife fan.

Where were the Westlife lyrics eh?! Love them, and love your blog. Such pretty nails! I have a few of these nail art things, not got round to trying them yet. Hope I get a more positive experience, but they were cheap online so nae bother if they aren’t too good… X
