Revlon – Pink Lemonade

Those of you who have been following this blog for some time will know that I haven’t always been a huge fan of Revlon’s Lip Butters. I was massively underwhelmed when they launched (despite buying 5 as soon as I saw them on sale) and decided they were over-hyped and just not for me.. fast forward six months and I was converted by a little gem named Raspberry Pie. The best examples of this range are the brights and though Lollipop was the nicest formula I owned the shade doesn’t suit me so I didn’t get much use out of it. Raspberry Pie is the perfect winter pinky red, it was rarely far from my lips and when I heard that Revlon had launched a new line of colours for Spring/Summer I decided to give them another go. The reason for the seemingly unnecessary back story here is that I’ve discovered the reason I disliked the in the first place, the majority of the colours are pale and sheer and look no good on anything other than perfectly smooth lips. My lips are almost always dry and the brights mask this but the milky texture of the paler shades emphasised it horribly, so more than half of this collection for me require serious prep work to look ‘right’. I wish someone had told me before because it’s like I’ve been given a stack of new products now I’m applying them  on the surface they were designed for. You can see from my swatch above that I have a little flakiness and Pink Lemonade clings to every single bit of it but when I scrub prior it is the dreamiest, creamiest formula ever..

So.. if like me you weren’t loving the Lip Butters I’m hoping this post will help you, I had so many people aghast at my admission of disappointment after they launched that I was starting to think I’d got a bad batch and I’m still surprised nobody suggested a lip scrub but I just couldn’t figure out why I didn’t like them, they were patchy and sticky and I just didn’t but I’m sorry Revlon, it wasn’t you, it was me!

There are several new gorgeous shades each available for £7.99 online here, we even have the previously US only shades now I believe as I know we couldn’t get Red Velvet before but it was in my local Boots store when I picked this up so it looks like they’re officially a hit!

Yeah i bought this colour too and hated it for the same reason. The new watermelon colour is lovely though and raspberry pie is also a favourite of mine 🙂

I really like the look of this but not sure it would show up on my lips at all. My favourite is peach parfait… not that bright, but not super pale either and has a lovely peachy sheen.

I completely agree, one of my major problems with strong lip colours, or very textured products, or a consistency like the lip butters is my lips are just not in the right condition before hand, which means I get a teeny bit of wear out of the product before its caking off and clinging to my dry lips. I’m on the hunt for a VERY good lip balm and scrub combo that will help me combat this so if anyone has any recommendations !! It’s a shame though because you’d think lip butters would be conditioning and not dry, same goes for Clinique chubby sticks which I love but unfortunately dry out my lips too. Anyway this shade looks gorgeous!

I have exactly the same problem! Especially that I really want to like them but they just go into the lines I have on my lips. But I’ll try with a scrub 🙂

I finally bought my first Revlon Lip Butter today.
It’s the perfect mix between a pale colour and a bright one!
    Peach Parfait is amazing

That is EXACTLY what happened to me! I just didn’t get the hype. The only way I’ve managed to get the lighter shades to look good is by applying with a lip brush rather than straight from the bullet.
