Rimmel Undercover Shadow Primer

After my Teen Makeup Basics video i had so many recommendations for drugstore eyeshadow primers to try. I’ve never had anything other than Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in the past and as a ‘budget beauty blogger’ I thought it was about time I changed that so I picked up the new Rimmel version. Unfortunately I think this may have been the worst one I could have chosen as it just doesn’t work at all for me. It feels silicone based and rather than setting on my lid to create a base it felt slippery and anything I put on top smudged. I will say that it does work better with cream shadows, the Maybelline Colour Tattoos are definitely boosted by it but generally I woouldn’t reach for a primer for those anyway.. so.. kinda pointless. If you have this and can suggest a better way to use it please let me know! I may try setting it with a powder before adding my eyeshadow, what the space for an update!

This was a disappointing one but I will try the MUA next as it was the most recommended, should have tried that first!

Available online here for £4.99

I have found mine works best if I put it on under my foundation and concealer and then put a little powder on top. Sadly it’s still not as good as my bareMinerals one, but it’s considerably cheaper and has a considerably larger volume.

I was going to try this but now I know how awful it is I’m not going to bother, I’m just going to stick to my trusty urban decay one. Thanks for the review

I haven’t tried any eyeshadow primer, but I have also heard good things about the MUA one 🙂

Have you tried the elf one? I’ve heard that one is pretty good too. I’d love a review on the MUA one though … I seriously can’t decide which drugstore eye primer to buy at the moment so at least I can cross this one off my list!

I really recommend the elf mineral one. The normal elf one is great for the price, but the mineral eye primer is just a pound our two more and anythingI put on my hooded eyelids stays put. Without it, everything creases on my eyes really quickly, so I’m am addict!

I’ve tried all 3 now and the elf is the best by far!

I have pretty good skin when it comes to being versatile with products, and this one put me off for the same reasons you had.. All primers I’ve used in the past have felt quite creamy in consistency, but this felt oily and when switched on the back of my hand it seemed to have a whitening effect?! It’s not the best. I advise benefit stay don’t stray, that’s great you need the tiniest amount! And if all else fails, a light on the skin concealer works a charm!
