Skincare Update

The video for this will go up tomorrow but I decided to post this today since it seemed a little fated that Organic Surge launched a huge sale today and half of my current products are from them. If you know me you’ll know I’m more than happy to use whatever chemicals necessary to make my skin (and hair for that matter) look and feel better but if they can be on the more organic/natural side then that has to be bonus, right?

This post (and the whole switch up for that matter) was inspired by a comment on my latest skin care in action video where someone told me the legend that is Caroline Hirons would have me in the stocks for some of what I was using. Now I’m not entirely sure which products she was referring to but when I was stuck on a train this weekend the comment popped in to my head and I decided to use that time to do a little research. Turns out Caroline recently made a video with the Pixiwoo girls (I know, I am the absolute last to know) about the good the bad and the ugly of skincare.. makes for very interesting viewing, I will embed it at the end of this post for you to watch. I knew face wipes were a no no as your regular cleanser and cut those out a while ago but I had no idea foaming washes were so terrible for you, they’re targeted towards oilier, blemish prone skin but the way Caroline tells it they do nothing but make those issues worse.. nightmare! Needless to say my L’Oreal wash has been relegated to my beauty cupboard and as luck would have it when doing so I discovered a balm cleanser (which Caroline says all skin types should be using) I hadn’t used up so that was an easy switch. She speaks about the ‘new toners’ which exfoliate and secondary toning.. all very scientific and expensive, I’m sure I will find a cheaper way to do it but you can see her recommendations in the video. Long story short I’m still very happy with my ‘night’ cream from OS and have added in an eye gel from them which I’m also really liking, I’m swapped face wash for cleansing balm and added in this ‘Glow Tonic’ from Pixi which I had coincidentally bought during my weekend in London ahead of watching the video.. spooky! The biggest change for me is I’m not longer using my Clarisonic, this is because it doesn’t really go with the balm. I’m not sure how Caroline feels about facial brushes, she sure as hell hates scrubs but that’s next on my list to look up. My skin has been so blah looking lately and I was looking for something I just didn’t know what it was until I saw the video. I’m not suggesting you throw out your skincare and start over but her advice is backed up with a great deal of knowledge and experience so I will bear her points in mind while shopping for products in future.. I don’t think I’ll be buying a £400 face cream though.

Botanics Cleansing Balm – discontinued but new version is available here priced £8.99 / Pixi Glow Tonic – available in store or email for mail order – according to Carolines blog / Organic Surge Blissful Daily Moisturiser – £2.12 – usually £8.49!! / Organic Surge Eye Gel – £8.49 – not in the sale unfortunately

I watched this video too and was shocked about things like foaming cleanser s and scrubs but I can’t afford any of these products they recommended so I’m just going to carry on using what works, will have to try that cleansing balm from botanics though 🙂

I’m certain there are budget alternatives, I don’t want to suggest anything until I’ve done my research but I will follow up and I think what I’m using is pretty budget friendly x

I got pretty annoyed watching that video, she said all the ingedients that were bad but didn’t say which ones were good, she just said here’s a £40 product that you should buy. How can people go out and look for cheaper alternatives if she doesn’t say what to look for? Also you can’t just say that certain things are bad/don’t work because they work differently for different people. If I were you I wouldn’t stop using a £100 face brush just because some snobby old woman might not like it haha.

I see where you’re coming from but she has a very comprehensive blog, I think she just tried to condense the advice to big don’ts and her recommended products in the video.. She talks more in depth in her posts. My Clarisonic is in desperate need of a new brush head anyway so it seems a good time to take a break from it and try so etching new anyway x

She doesn’t like the clarisonic either…I read it on her blog earlier today. I switched up my skincare after viewing this aswell, I have to say my face does feel better for it. Interested to see how you feel about the glow tonic. Really want to try that too 🙂

I recently discovered Caroline Hirons’ blog and love it. I keep her advice in mind but I think she does often say that if something she doesn’t recommend works for you, then good. Only if it’s not working out you should change it! She also said in an entry that she didn’t like the Clarisonic on herself but wouldn’t necessary discourage the use of it and to just not abuse of it! 🙂

I’ve been doing the double toning as per her advice (just happened to have both a glycolic and an aloe vera toner at home!) as well as using Hydraluron day and night… My face is already getting much better!

But i am sure you will read this in more detail at some time.

    Great finds!

    Erm Hi!

    ‘Snobby old woman’ here.

I’m not a snob. Or old. Although I’m probably older than you. 🙂

The Pixiwoo video was a snapshot of my Skincare. I will do posts about more affordable products. I just happened to be using those products on the day. Sorry.

Just wanted to stick my oar in. My old oar.
