Sleek Brow Stylist

I have sung the praises of the Smashbox Browtech To Go for almost a year now and in that time I’ve received A LOT of recommendations for cheaper alternatives but none so many as this guy. Unlike some others (which I’ll be honest, I assume I wont like regardless of some of you insisting otherwise) I had to run out and buy this because it looked so promising. I’m not too bothered about the shape of the Smashbox pencil, it’s nice but not essentialy however this is very similar.. so that seemed like a step in the right direction. Swatches online also looked really similar too and the spooly brush on the end appealed since I don’t use the brow gel on the Browtech – which kills me a little since it’s a £19 product and I’m just wasting half of it!!

So.. I bought it, I tried it immediately.. short story shorter – hated it! SO disappointed. The colour is great but the texture is way too waxy and I found it tough to get a non patchy looking brow from it. Another downside is that although the pencil looks to have the angled shape of my current beau it’s actually twice the thickness which means not only can you not get a fine line from new but with time it will wear down to something you will likely need to sharpen to continue using.

Overall. I’ll keep it in my drawer to use the spooly with other brow products but I do not love the pencil itself. There are plenty I prefer for less or similar price and I will be putting them all together in one mass review very soon.. I was pretty shocked at how many I’ve tred but it should make for a pretty comprehensive best/worst – fingers crossed.

If you have unruly brows which need a little taming but not so much filling in you might love this but if like me you’re creating brows from practically nothing.. this will not float your boat! – Available online here priced £5.99 in Light, Medium & Dark – I have Light

Think I’ll be avoiding this one now! I was thinking about getting it but I hate brow products that are too waxy!

I really like this but like you say, I’m not so much creating brows as filling in a few patches.

Avon do a brow pencil that I like as well so you might want to try that?

Ah what a shame, really wanted these to be amazing!

It’s a shame this brow pencil seems to have such a waxy texture as this probably makes it difficult to achieve an even finish with.

I currently use the MUA brow pencil in Blonde (£1) which is really waxy and quite orange so it’s really not that great! But it does an OK job for the price & I usually finish up with a bit of brow powder from my Wet & Wild Shadow & Brow Kit to mattify and blend out the finished look. I can totally see that the Smashbox browtech pencil makes doing brows a lot quicker and easier though but I don’t think I could bring myself to part with the cash! 😉 xx

I really am only happy spending on higher end stuff when I can’t get the right thing from Boots – eyeshadow and brow pencil are the only things I would spend more on

Ah what a shame, it looked like a product that would work wonders! I’ve been using the elf brow gel to fill my brows in lately! x

Have you tried any of the Korean ones? I swear by them, the colour is much more ashy and you cab get paler colours for us blondes, the one I’m using at present is from the Face Shop and is called Lovely Me:Ex – Design my Brows. I’m on my 3rd one of these, super easy to use, super soft and not waxy at all and cost about £4-5 🙂

small world, I went to school with a Zeenat. The best drugstore pencil I’d say would be the Soap & Glory Archery but high end I like MAC Fling & Smashbox Brow Tech To Go in Taupe
