I’ve never been a huge fan of lip palettes, lip balm applied from a pot is one thing but touching up your lipstick leaves you with a glossy fingertip you can’t just wipe on your jeans (tmi?) ..you know what I mean! I received these two palettes, Siren & Ballet, and thought ‘I’ll never use these’ but after swatching I can see some scenarios where they may come in handy. I’m never going to suggest that a palette is ideal for your everyday lip colour but for travel these are very compact and they’d also serve you really well at the office where perhaps you don’t want to keep a lot of makeup but there are times when you want to revamp before you go out of reapply after lunch and these would be handy.
BALLET: Clockwise – Tutu (gloss), Plié (satin), Pirouette (satin), Swan Lake (matte)
BALLET: L-R – Tutu, Swan Lake, Plié, Pirouette
SIREN: Clockwise: Love Me (gloss) , Desire Me (satin), Kiss Me (satin), Miss Me (matte)
SIREN: L-R – Love Me, Miss Me, Kiss Me, Desire Me
The gloss formulas in these palettes really took me by surprise, they are so opaque and shiny but they’re so goopy I can’t see them lasting long and the pan could get messy quickly! The matte colours I can’t see myself getting much wear from as with most matte lipsticks I have to really work to get a good cover and finish and that’s not so easy applying in layers with your fingertip. The satin finishes are probably the most wearable, good colour payoff and firm enough in the pan that you can press down without smushing the product.
I’m not completely won over by the whole lip palette idea but these Sleek Makeup sets have definitely made me look at them differently. If you use something like this on a regular basis I’d be really interested to hear why you like/prefer them to a traditional lipstick in a bullet.
These will be available from 8th May priced £8.99 each
