The Dilemma & The Chair

My new chair finally arrived and I love it but it’s brought a whole host of new problems along with it. For one it’s HUGE! It kind of dwarfs the room and having lived without it for the first few weeks in the new place it all looks really odd now. I liked our streamlined living space but we definitely needed the extra seating so it was never going to last forever regardless.. it will just take some adjusting. The dining area (not pictured, I’ll get to that in another post) now looks al wrong so that will need looking at soon but my top priority right now is integrating the chair in to the ‘living area’

Because of the height difference between the chair and the sofa it looks best (to me) at an angle as it doesn’t leave such a stark gap between the two but my husband thinks a tall lamp might fix that.. we’ll see, I think maybe a big, leafy plant would do it. He likes those nautical spotlight styles but I’m not sure they quite ‘go’, in the meantime I’ve popped a lamp we already had on the side table that was there which looks okay but the angle is throwing the table all off.. I think a round table may be in order. The one we have is only a cheap one from Ikea, I love the Lack range and have many of them scattered around the house in different shapes and sizes but I don’t think I can make it work there anymore. I’m considering something other than white since it will be small and it would be nice to introduce something a bit different.. a happy medium might be the marble topped metal framed one from Next (number 6 below) but we need to decide on the metal theme for the room first. Lee is quite liking the idea of a copper/rose gold light fitting – like this one – but I worry it might be a little too ‘of the moment’ .. something that will look super dated in a short period of time. One thing I did pick up today to try and help integrate the chair with the pale grey colour scheme I already have was this chunky chenile throw from Next.. so soft and warm and only £25.. I might have to go back for another! Anyway, here are some of the tables I’ve been looking at..

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7

A mix from Made, Ikea and Next.. I just don’t know quite what I want for the space.. which is your favourite?

For those wondering I had the chair made at Next, it’s a Sherlock button back snuggle seat in charcoal velvet and it arrived 4 weeks earlier than they quoted so I am a very happy bunny sitting in my new ‘throne’ as I type this. I know velvet isn’t the smartest choice for a home with kids (or accident prone mothers for that matter) but I was assured it’s more hard wearing than traditional velvets and I took out accident cover which protects me against all manner of ridiculous things so if I ever have to use it I will absolutely review that service! Oh and although it’s a ‘snuggle’ I’m not sharing..

Goodness gracious. Well that is a really large chair so I can see how it’d create some problems. It’s really cool though. :]

I love it and it did replace a 2 seater sofa we got rid of before the move but having lived with less in this room it’s quite an adjustment!

Have you tried moving the L shape sofa 90 degrees so it forms a partition between the sitting and dining areas and putting the new chair in the opposite corner on he outta wall adjoining the conservatory? Xx

it’s just a regular sofa and the other wall is a tv and a fireplace.. not a lot of room for manouvre

The chair is amazing but can understand your predicament. I like tables 1 and 6 the best. Definitely think round would suit the best. Love the rug too. I am about to do a living room makeover so love finding inspiration thank you 🙂

That chair is gorgeous but so big! I love the rose gold table… I’m not sure it would go, but it’s so beautiful I don’t think I could resist it!

Hi! I’ve been watching your youtube channel recently and just popped over to the blog for a scroll through.

I have a suggestion regarding the scale issues here if you haven’t resolved yet (I love all the pieces in the photos!) – what if you had a couple larger scale portrait oriented photos/art framed in black/charcoal over the sofa on the wall, that would help bring your eye up instead of just focusing on the chair (I know Ikea has a lot of poster type photos that look good in frames). Also, the two round tables (picture number 2?) in white would be great in the corner or number 6, the square seems a bit solid there.

One more thing regarding metal, have you thought about brushed brass? Does that make sense, not shiny brass, but I feel like the brushed is more subtle, and is a good contrast against the charcoal.

sorry for such a long comment! apparently I feel very strongly about your dilemma and had to get all my thoughts out 🙂
