The Holy Grail Makeup Brush

holy grail makeup brush real techniques buffing brush

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this on many occasions but I thought it was about time I gave a brush I use every time I apply my makeup without fail a post of it’s own. I was never sold on applying foundation with a brush, I ALWAYS use my fingers and was more than happy with the result. I never used a brush that did anything but streak the product across my face until I used this and I’ve never looked back. It makes super fast work of my base application and I think it gives a nicer finish.. which I never thought was possible. There is of course the odd product that I find it doesn’t work so well with but 90% of the time it works.. every time. Most of my other makeup brushes are interchangeable from blush to eyes but this.. its the ONE.

I’m writing this more for those of you who were like me and are totally against foundation brushes but in truth I never listened to anyone who told me this was great. I don’t remember why I bought it actually.. probably to review, I’ve actually found a lot of great products that way. I buy things I’m not even interested in just because I think you guys might be and occasionally I find gems I would never have bought for myself otherwise. For those of you out there applying your foundation with your hands and in turn getting foundation EVERYWHERE.. you have to try this! As far as I’m aware it’s only available in the core collection but if you’re looking for a single brush alternative I think this would be very similar.

Do you have a holy grail makeup brush?

I totally agree it’s a wonderful brush and I’ve washed mine about 50 times and not a single hair lost or any issues at all so completely worth the money. the brush you link to as an alternative is very different though – very dense and firm so less about the buffing and more about a stipple with that one as it moves foundation around much more. It’s a nice brush too – but the buffing brush is definitely nicer to use and softer 🙂

I use the buffing brush as my blush brush and the expert face brush for foundation… such a flawless airbrush finish 😀

This is one of my all time favourite brushes and I use it daily, after applying my base with fingers first. I then like to buff it in to make sure it’s pushed well into the skin. My daughter bought me the core kit for Christmas last year and I’ve used it every day since.

I too have tried many (often pricy) brushes for base and had no luck until this one came along. Even having to buy the core set to get it, it’s a bargain. Question: What’s your brush cleaner of choice and how often do you clean this particular brush. Thanks!

I am absolutely IN LOVE with Real Techniques brushes… I wrote up an entire blog post about them too… I have the core collection, starter kit, and the expert face brush.. Just a couple more brushes and I’d have the entire collection 😀

I haven’t ever purchased the Core Collection since I am satisfied with my Expert Face Brush, but I may have to purchase it now!

I have many favorite brushes, but the RT Expert Face Brush must be my holy grail one. I hated brushes for foundation until I bought that one and now I couldn’t apply my base any other way.

I used to use the expert face brush but ever since I tried the RT face sponge I’ve been hooked. I can use it for foundation, concealers and loose powder. So now I can do my whole face with that sponge, the base shadow brush and the duo fibre face brush.

I was exactly like you, never found or saw the reason for a foundation brush until I tried this one. This one really does provide the most flawless airbrushed finish.

I bought the core collection just for this brush but i have to say i was very disappointed. It soaks up a lot of product instead of spreading it and it buffs most of the make-up away. I personally think the expert face brush is far better if you prefer full coverage.

Oh no! Maybe it was the product you used? These are synthetic fibres so they don’t soak up product half as much as animal fibres.

I’ve been wanting to purchase this real techniques brush for a while now but got distracted by the beauty blender which I found has been better than any makeup brush I’ve ever used!
Might still give it a try though. I wonder if the finish is better than with the beauty blender? Xx

This brush is a must, it’s never lost a hair since I’ve had it.

I have two of these brushes- I use one for foundation, one for buffing my blush/bronzer in. SO perfect!

The buffing brush is without a doubt my HG brush too although I have to agree with the top comment – it is nothing like the expert face brush. Both are great at applying foundation but the expert face brush is very dense. When I use the expert brush, it feels as though a lot of my foundation is soaked up because the bristles are so compacted and it’s quite stiff when buffing out. Both give an equally flawless finish though.
