This is How I Blog…

I love DITL style posts from other bloggers but I vlog and you can see what I do day to day whenever you like so I decided to do more of a ‘This is How I Blog’ post instead. Most bloggers at some time or another have made blogging look very glamourous, whether it be the free samples or the seemingly unending string of events they attend it’s all a matter of perception and I for one can tell you that my life is certainly not glamourous! I think most of us like to give the illusion that our lives are like the above picture while for many it’s much more like the below..

I am a wife (not really a job as my husband is a *HUGE* help around the house and with the kids), mother of two, employee 4 days per week and I post a minimum of 3 videos and 14 blog posts per week. I do think there are different categories of blogger and although I don’t class myself as a ‘Mummy Blogger’ I definitely have a lot more going on than my blog. I am supremely jealous of all the young London blogettes drinking cocktails with their blogging buddies but much as you have a preconceived idea of my life that may not be entirely accurate I’m sure theirs is not all as it appears to be either. I get one full day per week to dedicate to filming, editing, photographing and blogging but that’s also my only day home with my son. My priority is always my family but I am very lucky to be coming to a stage with my blog where I could earn more at home than going out to work so while I  want to spend as much time with them as possible I also know the more time I spend here now the more time I will hopefully have with them down the road.  It’s a tricky balance when you have kids, a job and I guess.. another job but it’s so worth it and if one day it enables me to work from home doing something I love I will be forever thankful to all of you who read what I write every day. That being said it’s a lot of work and what may appear to be a quick post about hair care isn’t just a 5 minute job, it was probably a week of testing, photographing and researching prior to sharing my review. I have to multitask (again, see above) I’m testing out a new candle while wearing a face mask, while swatching an eyeshadow palette, writing up a perfume review and balancing the baby on my knee, trying to deter him from happy slapping my keyboard and distracting him with Curious George. It’s not all frappuccinos and macbook pro’s with perfectly manicured nails and cool typo prints in the background.. but that would be nice, wouldn’t it?

Miss BB

thank you! we all love a pretty instagram account but it can’t all be starbucks and beautiful things lol

  2. 31 May, 2013 / 8:08 pm

I love this post. I have to admit I used to think along the same lines (bloggers always going to events, quickly throwing a post together and then swatching all of the new freebies they were sent that day) There is so much more behind the scenes which can make it incredibly stressful. I’m glad you are getting closer to your goal of being able to work at home. Your hard work is paying off

on the rare occasion I have been home to received a package I am SO excited to photograph and it and review it the same day haha.. I always envy the girls that do this full time but of course just as I have my life they have theirs. I would love that one day though

  3. 31 May, 2013 / 8:10 pm

I think that is why people like your blog so much though, because you are a normal person like the rest of us! Keep up the good work!

I can totally relate to this post – i am a mother of 2 kids and try to balance blogging with motherhood as well which isn’t always easy but hey if i could ever make a job out of it I would love that

it’s the ultimate dream isn’t it? I’d hoped it might happen in time for me not to go back after having Milo but I think I’m looking at the end of the year the way things are going.. I will be so, so happy if I ever get to do this as my job.. I never thought it was possible!

  5. 31 May, 2013 / 8:52 pm

I love this post! How you find time to blog so much and be an amazing mum is beside me! By far one of my all time favourite blogs.

sometimes I wonder myself but it’s just a little here and there.. I don’t start work til 10am so often I have an hour in the morning before I leave when Milo is having his breakfast (I am lucky that he refuses to be fed haha – very self sufficient baby) and I can edit a video or blog or in some cases film the beginning of a first impressions foundation video etc.. it’s just fitting it in during that time when you would normally just maybe sit and watch TV or play candy crush haha

  6. 31 May, 2013 / 9:35 pm

I love this post! I can imagine you doing 40 things at once, you’re a true blogger! 😀 x

that is so so me.. bizarrely I am the laziest person but I think that’s why I’m so productive.. I hate to do one thing, I couldn’t just sit and watch tv anymore, my fingers would be itching to tweet at very least lol. I need to get as much done as possible in the time I do have so I can get to bed and relax usually.. I used to take my laptop to bed, that’s why I bought a desktop when it needed replacing

thank you! I have never been particularly ambitious but the idea that I could earn a very nice wage one day from something I love doing and I can do it without leaving my house is absolutely amazing.. it’s something you can’t train for or even plan it just happens or it doesn’t and I’m kind of in disbelief that it happened for me! I actually have no idea how blog stats work with regard to emails and blog lovin’ etc but I just want people to read in whatever format is easiest for them.. don’t worry about my revenue haha! but thanks for the thought x

  8. 31 May, 2013 / 9:54 pm

I love this post, It’s so honest when it comes to blogging.
With most bloggers these days they all seem to be living this wonderful life or events and freebies. It’s nice to see they’re not all like that 🙂

  9. 31 May, 2013 / 10:15 pm

Hats off to you Mikhila – I honestly don’t know how you do it (I have kids and work part time and can only just about manage 3- 4 blog posts a week (at the expense of my ironing – think my husband has given up on me ever touching the ironing pile again!) – mostly done late at night on my laptop (huge dark circles as a result). Obviously you’re working your backside off and it’s paying off – well done! x

Bit of a holier than though post dont you think??

    • missbudgetbeauty
      31 May, 2013 / 11:10 pm

I think you mean holier than thou and you may think so but my intention was quite the opposite. I was trying to show that behind what may appear to be a bit flashy is a regular person in pyjamas and a face mask.. Nothing special and no better than anyone else.. Just busy. I don’t think that makes me holier than thou but as I said it’s all a matter of perception

  11. 31 May, 2013 / 11:04 pm

By far my favourite blog post of yours, possibly my favourite blog post full stop. Its really nice to read something so down to earth, and nice to know I’m not the only one who can’t type up a post in 5 minutes. (I can spend hours on a really short post).
Also amazed at how much you seem to get done! Making me think I’m a bit of a lazy human sometimes..
    Love the post

Oh don’t get me wrong I can get some posts written up in minutes but for the most part I need more time. I am the absolute laziest but I make time for blogging because I enjoy it.. I don’t think I’d do the same for washing up lol x

  12. 31 May, 2013 / 11:16 pm

This is a very enjoyable post to makes things straight on the same level with the readers and that’s nice…quoting Jenny G “hats off “to must be quiet tricky balancing time between home, kids , husband, yourself and the blog..but is such a nice feeling when all works out 🙂
    Good luck with your blog,

    Ila x

Thank you! I look at other bloggers and have an idea of their lifestyle through snippets on Instagram and twitter but thinking about it I know whatever I imagine their life to be is likely nothing close to accurate so I thought I would give a little insight into mine. Even the big time bloggers get home and watch TV, go to McDonald’s and are basically “just like us” but I always imagine them jetting off to somewhere exotic every other day lol.

  13. 31 May, 2013 / 11:28 pm

This has made me feel so much better, fingers crossed one day my blog might get noticed! Your hard work has really paid off and I love your blog, who cares what your personal life is like, you seem to live an amazing life balancing your family life and your hobbies perfectly! I’m just a teenager who has stopped and started my blog for so long because negativity and perception can be so overwhelming, this post was perfect! I love honest posts like this, so inspiring!

    Love Holly xoxox

  14. 31 May, 2013 / 11:32 pm

I love the honesty of this post. It’s inspiration to me to think you can juggle all of this and still post such quality things on your blog. I only hope I can apply that same resolve to my future posts. 🙂

Aww I’m so glad you wrote this! It’s so nice to see a little behind the blogging scenes snippet 🙂 I massively admire you for having the commitment and the drive to cram 14 blog posts a week into your life when you are so busy! I manage one/two posts a week and really wish I had the time, (and/or products/MONEY to buy things off my endless wish list!) to do more, but from seeing what you do, I feel as though I could up my game and with it, improve my blog – I adore blogging, my blog is like my baby <3 also have to say it's reassuring to find a successful blogger who doesn't spend their life drinking endless Starbucks and attending flashy events haha, oh the high life ey 😉

I have so much respect for you! I live on my own with a cat and I am a full time research student with no job and I can’t even find enough time to blog! You work so hard and give such honest, thought out reviews. Love your blog and your youtube channel 🙂 xx

  21. 1 June, 2013 / 12:31 pm

This blog is exactly what I need to read. I like to browse and look at various types of blogs and mine never seems to match up. I’m not out drinking cocktails, wearing designer labels, but that doesn’t mean to say I don’t enjoy it…it’s just not my life and would never fit in with my lifestyle.
it’s so refreshing to read this and see the real, honest side to it all. Thanks 🙂

You are by far my fav blogger & youtuber! Always look for your posts & videos first & you’re the reason I’ve started my own blog! 🙂 xx

Lovely post. I too have the same impression on blogging. That blogging are all about glamour and beauty and everything nice. That’s the reason why I never made my own blog and settle as a silent spectator, reader of the thousands of glamorous and interesting blog because I think I don’t got the same interesting and spectacular stuffs that I could possibly share on my own blog. It’s good to read this post and I got a good feeling to come out from my shell and participate through this comment box. 🙂

Such a great post! I was nodding and smiling the whole way through. For me it’s a little different as I’m currently on maternity leave having just had a new baby but before that I was working 4/5 days a week and trying to write up as many blog posts as I could on one of the spare days I had! Lol. Now following your fab blog 🙂
