In the recent heat (although it’s kinda cooled down in the last day or two) these two products have been an absolute godsend and for all you oily gals out there.. these are year round MUST HAVES! I tried the original All Nighter Setting Spray once upon a time when I worked on an Urban Decay counter but only ever randomly throughout the day so I never had chance to fall in love with it. Same with their De-Slick gel (which I’m not sure they still make) that totally impressed me but I never tested it over a whole day so never bit the bullet and bought it. When I heard they’d combined the two I was excited but it wasn’t until this summer that I felt I could really justify the purchase. I’m not sure why but the oil became uncontrollable around May time, like CRAZY. I bought Estee Lauder Double Wear in the hope that would help but alas.. it was quite the disappointment.
This was a little disappointing as well as the setting spray leaves a shiny layer on your face that kind of defeats the purpose of de-SLICK. It seems to be hit and miss from the reviews I’ve read.. some love it, some hate it but I’ve found a way to make it work for me. I wear the spray as a primer before I apply my base and it really does help to control oil, I then use the powder to set everything and I don’t even think about touching up until around 2pm when I usually excuse myself and blot any sneaky oil with a tissue. The powder is very fine and silky but (contrary to MANY other reviews) I do find that it leaves a white cast so I don’t like to use it too much to touch up throughout the day. It’s excellent as an initial layer but my favourite touch up powders are Revlon Nearly Naked and MAC’s Blotting Powder.
The setting spray is definitely the star of the two though, it not only helps to keep me shine free but also helps to keep the rest of my makeup in place too. If I use it sparingly I CAN get away with sealing my full face with it if I think it’s going to be a particularly long/humid day and it could use the extra oomph but on the whole I use it as my first step and am very happy with it. I’d repurchase it however I’ve had many people tell me that All Nighter is actually better for oil control than the De-Slick so I think that will be next on my list.. that or one of the Skindinavia sprays, they actually make the ones for Urban Decay and they offer a huge variety so they’re definitely on my list.
How are you keeping your face fresh in this heat?
