I have never been a gym bunny but at around this time every year I decide I want to be one and splurge on a load of new kit, go to the gym twice and pack it in the for another year. I haven’t been great so far but my gym is where I work and especially now I have my own car I really have no excuse for not going at least a couple of times a week. Usually I buy myself something skin tight and ridiculously hard to get in to which almost knocks me off the first hurdle in itself because the thought of having to struggle in to something and then look like I’m being strangled by my own clothes isn’t appealing. This time I bought comfier, fully length leggings, a light support bra that isn’t 3 sizes too small and a baggy top to hide it all under leaving me comfortable physically as well as when I look in the mirror. I don’t know about you but if I catch sight of myself doing sit ups in a form fitting top that’s not morivation to go on it’s motivation to go home. While I’m at the gym I want to feel good about myself and much as it might seem silly to care what you look like while you’re there most of us are there TO look good.. so a flattering outfit that makes you feel good is only going to help.

Other essentials in my bag include headphones (if I didn’t have them I’d probably just turn back around – MUST have my headphones), a water bottle.. nothing fancy – thought I’ve been tempted by some cute ones recently. Lastly for AFTER the work out I have a little foundation stick and a cream blush. Since my gym is where I work chances are I will have my handbag with me which has powder to touch up but I added in these products that could perk me up if I felt I wanted a beauty boost but need no brushes to apply. I don’t often leave the gym wanting to do my makeup I must say but they’re there for when you just never know. Body spray on the other hand is ALWAYS needed! I am currently using the new Impulse Be Surprised which is really fresh and fruity, I had an old one in there that was a little muskier and vanilla based.. this is definitely more gym friendly.

Have you got any tips for sticking with the gym? I join, I buy kit, I go twice, my membership runs out, I join a different gym and the cycle continues!!

    Great post,

I can’t wear tight gym trousers. I tried on a pair in Asda and they surprisingly smoothed out all the bumps, but I don’t feel comfortable showing off every curve of my behind. Well not in the gym anyway haha.

I wouldn’t be able to wear makeup to or after the gym… it just feels wrong!
