Xen Tan – Weekly Self Tan

Over the past few weeks I’ve been trialling the many fake tan products I have in my cupboard and will be sharing them all individually this month before hitting you with a monster tan post where I unveil my top picks, hopefully in time for some nicer weather.

Today we’re talking about Xen Tan – Deep Bronze Luxe Weekly Self Tan

Application with this one is great. It’s a lovely feeling lotion that’s quite heavily scented, I’ve heard it described as vanilla but it’s more toffee to me.. just me? I used a tanning mit to apply and I didn’t need much to achieve what appeared to be an even thin layer but although it’s tinted you can’t really see where you’ve applied it so it’s tricky. It dried completely after about 20 minutes though which was really impressive for a lotion in my experience.

Everyone raves about this stuff and I was expecting something amazing but I have never looked so orange! I wish I’d taken pictures of my feet.. I applied this more than a week ago and they’re still not totally normal looking yet. SO ORANGE!

I can vouch for them when they say it’s a week-long tan. I actually only used this on my legs as I’d been breaking out from trying so many different formula’s on my face and chest area and boy was I glad I hadn’t applied it all over after how it turned out. It lasted maybe 5 days before it faded and it’s still sitting stubbornly on my knees and feet.

As previously mentioned.. it wears off on your ‘regular’ areas well but anywhere remotely dry it will be with you for a lot longer. Not great in my opinion.

The scent again I mentioned but it really is so nice.. the nicest scent when upon application that I’ve used. People have reported no fake tan smell with this but come on.. you can’t get away from it! After about half an hour the scent starts to develop but once you’ve showered it’s pretty much gone for the duration.

I was thoroughly disappointed. Luckily I had a mini size from a beauty box to try this out but I’ve considered purchasing the full size in the past due to such overwhelmingly positive reviews. Let me tell you.. it’s not so great on everyone so I’d advised buying a tester (You can find them on eBay) before shelling out £21.50

Would I Repurchase?

No.. I still have about half of the small tube left as I only did my legs and I’d consider another test run in the future before writing it off completely but it’s not fool-proof and I’ve used so many cheaper products with better results.

I bought the dark lotion and loved it! I did however put body butter on my knees, elbows and feet before applying which helped with any patchiness. The result wasn’t “olive” as many describe it. I agree with you on that point but it was natural and not orange on me. Also the dark lotion seems to have a better guide colour than this one.
What i’d really like to find over here in France is some Dove or Garnier gradual tan but i’ve looked everywhere and it seems to be out of favour with French ladies:-( In fact they don’t even seem to fake tan – and believe me – our summer has been as crap as yours so far!

I do always put a little extra moisturiser on my super dry areas but it was so so dark on my knees and feet.. I’m tempted to do it again to take a picture lol. The Dove is nice but has a very strong scent that lingers and I’ve never tried the Garnier but it’s had great reviews 🙂 x

Iv never heard of a toffee scented one but each range has a different scent,(lotions, creams and colours medium/dark e.c.t) iv tried the vanilla the chocolate scented one and the cherry, I love them all and they wear off great on my pale skin. Personally i wouldnt test tan on legs, dry areas like knees will always absorb more product upper body tests are better imo as things like your bra rubbing off product and orange marks under your arms e.c.t are things that I look for. Im thinking you prefer light tans as I didnt like the St moritz that you said you liked, literally left no colour on me and washed right off and I have pale skin and red hair, you could try xen tan medium, you might get a better result.

Aah I didn’t know there were different scents!! At the end of the day if a tan doesn’t work on my legs I’m not gonna use it do matter how awesome it looks on my upper body lol. You might look for orange armpits but I want to look even all over and I would guess a lot of girls just tan their legs.
