B. Brushes
Usually drugstore brush ranges are pretty lackluster. They're cheap but basic and inevitably are replaced when your budget allows but the new line from B. Beauty is actually really impressive. They're not the lowest cost option but they're far from the highest and they're super accessible, stocked in Superdrug stores across the UK. Much as I like the odd makeup splurge I do NOT like the predatory eye of the makeup counter staff as I browse so if I was to buy something on the higher end it would likely be online but when it comes to brushes, don't you want to see them in person first? I like that these are lined up for you to see somewhere you will be totally bother free while you decide which you 'need'. That's why I'm a budget beauty girl at heart.. I like to swatch and peruse at my leisure!
...but enough about WHERE you can find them and more about whether you would want to. I have tried A LOT of brush brands over the years and (first impressions, I'm yet to wash them yet so stay tuned for an update) these definitely hold their own against the likes of Sigma & Real Techniques. It's a new line so it's bound to launch with the basics but I do hope to see expansion in the future as there are core brushes I feel are missing that I would need to supplement from elsewhere but those that I have been using in place of my regulars are doing the job perfectly. One thing I'm always on the look out for are smaller, travel sized brush kits.. most are missing the brushes I would most want and I can't tell you that this set is perfect because it's not but I think it's so tough to create something that will suit everyone. What I consider to be my essentials others may not be able to work with. The kit comes with a mini Powder, Foundation, Eyeshadow and Lip but if I had my way this would be the line up..
Powder, Blush/Contour, Eyeshadow, Eyeshadow Blending. I could get by with those as an absolute minimum and you can watch out for more on my travel essentials very soon as we're going away in less that 2 weeks time.. I'm thinking at LEAST this cute Powder brush will make the cut but there others have time to win me over.
The handles are matte and a little rubbery which I like for grip (not that I'm twirling them like batons but you know what I mean.. they feel nice) but they could get dirty easily.. not something that bothers me but something to bear in mind. The brushes themselves are uber soft and the Blush/Contour is unlike any other I've tried in this shape.. most are almost stiff as I assume they're designed to pick up a lot of product.. this is softer but not too much so, perfect for a heavy handed blush-applier like myself! Like I say this is just my first impression for now as I've only had them for a matter of days but you can expect an update in the future and if you watch my videos and spy them in a GRWM you know I'm loving them. The range starts at £5.99 for a single brush but there's currently 25% off B. Beauty (don't quote me on that, it's my remedial maths!) so you can actually pick up the travel set for just £13.49 which I would say is the best way to try a selection of the range before shelling out on the full size brushes.. plus the mini Powder brush is adorable!
