Battle Of The Batiste
Since the majority of my colour grew out my hair has been in such great condition that I have barely been using any kind of product (even conditioner) but it does need washing every day and after a couple of months off I decided it was time to revisit my old friend, dry shampoo. The catalyst was joining the gym, I tend to shower at night and so if I workout in the morning I have to wash it again if I'm going anywhere or say, filming a video. I popped in to Asda to pick up my favourite Tropical Batiste and was faced with MULTIPLE choices from the same brand. I think I may have tried the 'bare' kind in the past, it rings a bell but I had definitely never seen the shampoo & conditioner before so obviously I had to buy them all.. for review purposes, you understand.Anyone that thinks I'm mad for buying 3 kinds of dry shampoo at once will be baffled by my next step. In a bid to demonstrate the residue left by each variety of Batiste I had the bright idea to spray them on my arm and now have 2 marks that resemble cigarette burns. Bit stupid perhaps but I know I've sprayed aerosols on my skin before, there's obviously something a bit different about dry shampoo. So 1) let this be a warning to those of you who are as daft as me and 2) I don't even think it really gave a true interpretation of residue because I know for a fact that Original Batiste (tropical in this instance) leaves more of a white cast in my hair than Bare.. but I had to share the picture regardless since I very much suffered for its existence. Also Bare gave me the most 'sting' and the biggest 'burn' which again seems odd but is ultimately irrelevant.
So How Do They Compare?
I've tried a lot of dry shampoo from a lot of different brands but I always come back to original Batiste because my hair is greasy. I need that powdery residue to soak up the oil, anything ultra light and 'invisible' is almost always pointless for me so use that as a benchmark for my review. With that in mind Original is great for those days when your hair actually needs washing but you don't have time/you want to prolong a good hair day. The 'Natural & Light' Bare is also good, lighter and better for those with fine hair or as a refresh (after the gym for example or at the end of the day) but I need more of it if my hair actually needs washing. Finally the new '2-in-1' is a bit of a swizz, I think. I don't think you can be both shampoo & conditioner in a spray, I use this as a dry conditioner/shine spray on my ends and it's great but it just absolutely nothing for my oil and I would guess that unless you have uber dry hair you won't benefit from this anywhere near your roots.I'll be sticking to my original Tropical at home but will pick up some more of the Bare for my gym bag and would consider picking up a second can of the shampoo/conditioner but as I'm using it so sparingly that won't be for a while..
