Neon Nails From Essie

NEON NAILS ESSIE SS 17I have been so in to neon nails in the past and as such have tried a fair few formulas and am sceptical when new ones hit the shelves. This range from Essie piqued my interest because it had 2 elements I've found to be effective in the past. 1. a white base coat (a la Nails Inc's 'brights' collection last year) and 2. a thin, matte formula (just like my all time favourite Sunsational collection from China Glaze) ..I was feeling positive.NEON NAILS ESSIE SS 17My first impressions weren't as positive but I wanted to give them a fair trial and so I've experimented a little over the past couple of weeks. The white base coat is not great.. it chips incredibly easily on me and so as a package I wouldn't recommend them however any white will do and so substituting an amazing, long lasting white is an easy fix. If you're looking for a semi-sheer muted neon the colours can be worn alone and look really pretty but much like the white.. the formula is prone to chipping and so it needs a glossy top coat if you want your nails to last more than a day.NEON NAILS ESSIE SS 17For me? It's not worth it. The China Glaze collection is a one stop shop.. again not the most long lasting but a vibrant neon without the need for a base coat. If you totally fall in love with a shade from the new Essie range I would suggest skipping the base coat and buying Seche Vite Porcelain II  (the best white polish I've ever tried) to use underneath.
